WW: Our amazing first experience!

The chronicles of my Ordinary and Awesome life, family, and thoughts at www.ordinaryandawesome.com. Ordinary and Awesome is also the Mostly Wordless Wednesday headquarters as well as the home to several original awards and memes.

I saw him and hollered for the kids! We were all so excited. It was right on the door and it was awesome to just sit there and watch it move. I've never gotten the opportunity to see one of them like this so up close and personal so I was just snapping away. The kids loved it! I even have  a little video of it moving across and up. it is ever so slow, but we had time.

It went all the way across and then up.

Monday Mingle: 9/28/09 - Lifestory tidbits

Apparently I missed one of the questions so I'll answer here: My husband proposed to me over the phone. I was in my country and he was in his. He called me up and proposed! Then when we met again, he proposed by my prompting I think, as he thought he did it once and didn't need to again. But that was over the phone! :)

If you'd like to join in the fun, do a short vlog on your blog, post the above button on your site and link up on the linky at Eighty MPH Mom. Visit the other participants, learn about them and have fun! Trust me, if I can do it, then you can. Look down there at the amateur :) Come on jump in!

These are the questions for this week:1. If you could live in any state in the U.S., which would you choose?

2. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

3. Have you been to a high school reunion? If not, why not?

4. How did your spouse propose to you?

5. Did you have any childhood nicknames?

6. Are there any questions you have for my daughter? She would love to hear your questions and answer them on next week's Monday Mingle!

Aloha Friday: Do You Hover?

My Question:

Do you sit on public toilets?
******************************************

No. I hoist? Is that the word? no. ok. I hover :) And I use paper to touch anything and everything! When the kids are in there, I ensure to sing-song 'don't touch' and get them out as quickly as possible!

Kailani says "In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response."

Pledge Time For A Child and Win A Frigidaire Professional Double Wall Oven!

Frigidaire revised logo

If there is one thing that all mothers wish they had more of, it would definitely be time. Whether you'd use those bonus minutes to sneak in some alone time or to shower your little ones with kisses, we could all use an extra hour in our day! Many of us have heard about, or experienced first-hand, the time-saving power of Frigidaire's incredible new appliance line. Now the brand is taking their commitment to mothers one step forward by partnering with an admired and philanthropic celebrity mom- Jennifer Garner.

Not only is Jennifer a huge fan of the time-saving features of the new Frigidaire appliance line, but she's teaming up with the brand to launch an incredible campaign for an important cause. Jennifer and Frigidaire are proud to kick off the "Make Time for CHANGE" campaign to support Save the Children's U.S. Programs, dedicated to making a difference for the smallest and most vulnerable Americans - children.

Frigidaire's new line of appliances, the largest launch in the brand's history, is designed with time-saving features for busy moms. While it's only September, we're asking Moms - and everyone who believes in the power of Moms - to think ahead to November 1st - the day all of us change the clocks and get an extra hour - and pledge to use that time to make CHANGE for children.

Starting today, for everyone who goes to Frigidaire.com and raises their hand with a pledge to make time for a child, Frigidaire will donate $1 to support the CHANGE program and Save the Children's work to help children in need in the U.S. And in addition to that fuzzy feeling you get from doing something good, everyone who pledges their time will be entered for a chance to win a new Frigidaire Professional double wall oven! Those in the market for top-notch new appliances should also know that, for every new Frigidaire Professional double wall oven sold, Frigidaire will donate $100 to Save the Children's U.S Programs as part of their $250,000 commitment to this worthy cause. So go on over and raise your hand in pledging!

Aloha Friday: Morning Meal

My Question:

Do you eat breakfast each day?
******************************************

Yes I eat breakfast every day because I have to make it for the kids. Plus I know it's one of the more important of meals.

Chef Spice: Get Yo' Man Chicken

*Added note* I was just browsing a friend's blog and she has just made her post about a recipe too and she is in the blog carnival called Tempt my Tummy Tuesdays, so I figure why not just join in. I wouldn't mind finding other great recipes this way too. So head over to Lisa's blog and join in on the food fun.

Blessed with Grace

Today was full. I had so many things to do while interacting with the children that at one point, I just wanted to stand in cold water and scream.

I giggled about it. Then giggled some more and the kids didn't understand so they started to laugh too lol.

At the end of the day I could greet the husband with a smile and didn't mind the kids missing nap and made a delicious dinner which every one ate, with praise in my direction.

I want to share the main dish with you. It is really really really good. You gotta try it and then let me know.

I was watching a show a couple months ago and there was this couple making a meal. Patrick and Gina Neely have their own cooking show I think, but I've not yet watched it. They were guests on this talk show and they made: Get Yo' Man Chicken."
I was so intrigued that I got the recipe and did it and have fallen in love with making chicken this way, and the husband loves it! Which is what I want, because every time I cook, I am actually cooking for him. I don't set out in my mind to just cook for him, but unconsciously, I feel that I'm cooking for 'him.'

So tonight I made 'Get Yo' Man Chicken' and rice (brown rice) and mash potatoes squished with butter and pepper and mayonnaise. It was delish!

No ice cream for me as I'm stuffed to the gills and I'm not sure if I want to giggle some more or fall asleep!

Here is the chicken recipe and I hope you will try it. Many times I didn't have all the ingredients and just made do with what I had so don't worry if you don't have a few of them. I've not yet done this chicken with wine, and I've done this probably six times already! So maybe next time I'll try with wine and see the difference.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 chicken thighs, skinless
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoons pepper
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can crushed tomatoes in thick puree
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon lemon-pepper
  • Hot buttered rice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves

Directions

Heat the oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat.

Pat chicken dry with a paper towel and season with salt and pepper.

Brown the chicken, meat-side down first, and turning once, about 4 minutes on each side.

Transfer to a plate to reserve.

Pour off all but 1 tablespoon of oil from the pan.

Add onion to the pan and saute until tender, roughly 3 minutes.

Add the stock and wine and stir, scrapping any brown bits off the bottom of the pan.

Turn heat to high and reduce by half, about 3 minutes. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the dried herbs and lemon pepper.

Add the chicken thighs back into the pan.Cover and cook on medium-low heat for 40 minutes.
Remove chicken from liquid and serve on hot buttered rice.

Ladle the sauce on top and garnish with fresh chopped parsley.

Cook time: Approx 55mins
Level: Pretty easy
Serves 4-6

Thank you Patrick and Gina!

Enjoy!
