Aloha Friday: Outhouse

My Question:

Have you ever used an outhouse/outdoor toilet? ( I'm not talking about the porta potty that they put out in certain public places)

*******************
I grew up using them before we had indoor flush and still most times you better had your bucket of water to flush!
The outhouse/toilet is still being used in 2010 on 365 Project

Kailani says "In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response."

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link on Kailani's blog. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Sure at parks and outdoor festivals or activities. I try and stay away from them if I can help it though !

kailani January 22, 2010 12:51 AM

I've used the porta-potty ones they have at the fairs but never an actual outhouse. But I guess if nature calls you have no choice. :-)

Kimberly@PrettyPinkMomma January 22, 2010 1:03 AM

I've used the porta-potty ones and when I was in Girl Scouts I used the outhouses. They nicknamed them BIFFY's - Bathroom In Forrest For You. Either way I would rather just pop a squat the good old fashioned way - as long as no one was watching!

yeah when i was 4 my grandparents used to have a temporary one while they were building their home... it was fun times whenever i needed to go at nights:):):)

Happy Friday and here's my Aloha

a49erfangirl January 22, 2010 7:53 AM

Yes I have used them and I don't like them. They creep me out! In Girl Scouts we use to call them Out Door Biffies.

When I was a kid, and didn't know better I think, at camp. They had those wooden outhouses with the disgusting beyond belief wooded toilet holes.

Have a great Friday!

Sure! When I was younger my grandad owned this store and the only bathroom it had was out back-an outhouse basically.

Jennifer January 22, 2010 9:53 AM

But of course, not an experience I treasure, but one I have had on several occasions.

Auntie E January 22, 2010 11:27 AM

Oh yes, and I really do not like them. I the military we had to dig our own, than cover it up when done. In girl scouts we had outhouses. I really hated using them.

Annie January 22, 2010 11:59 AM

Oh yes, when I had an emergency is neccesary used them specially at festivals. BTW, is the worst and ugly thing in the world but I'm not going to do my neccesity on my pants, haha.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today.

Happy Friday and weekend!!

Xmas Dolly January 22, 2010 2:32 PM

Yep, when I was little and we'd go to the Forest Preserves on picnics they had those there. ewwwwwwwww

TheAngelForever January 22, 2010 3:10 PM

Sue have - lots of them at Girl Scout came. Nothing like finding an animal inside them when you head in - yikes!

MJW January 22, 2010 5:41 PM

Camping and such is something you kind of have to use it for. I'm a small town girl and know how to pop a squat. :)

Night Owl Mama January 22, 2010 7:05 PM

IF I have to...
Otherwise I'll hold it. Lately they have been so clean and don't really smell as bad as they used to. with even a sink to wash your hands on the inside

Imperfect Stepford Wife January 23, 2010 3:11 PM

Many people thought it was a big joke when I used to speak about my experiences. Used them for the first 9 years of my life.

I try not to use them now, but have a few times at outdoor events.

Also, visiting from SITS, love the blog, feel I could just walk into the beautiful header you have here. Great stuff.

Christi January 23, 2010 3:28 PM

Stopped by from SITS to see answer your unusual question. I remember as a kid when we took a trip for camping at the cabin it meant doing our business in the outhouse. As a child I was terrified to go in by myself. What might be lurking in the dark place? Spiders, rats, monsters, I don't know.

As an adult we have a friend who we visit quite often who still has an outhouse. I'm not nearly so worried as I was when I was a child, but now I take my dog with me when I have to "go" there. Just in case there's a rabbid racoon or rat nearby. Mostly just for my mental state. It makes me feel better somehow knowing I can call the dog to "get em"

Becca January 23, 2010 10:19 PM

Nope, I have never used one. There have always been outhouses or nature wherever I went lol
