WW: Skipping - How do you spend time in your community?

That's what we call it in my country. You can use one rope or two. I love doing the two rope like this. It's so exciting. I miss it and I can't wait to teach my children!

If only we had communities that come together and do things like this. I do miss my country with how neighbors really get to know each other and live in community etc.

We found the very same fun sharing on our mission trip to Nicaragua.

caite February 24, 2010 12:31 AM

jumping rope. you know, I have never seen men jumping rope in the USA..expect boxers training.

Michelle @ Flying Giggles February 24, 2010 1:43 AM

I wish our neighbors interacted like that...so sad that we don't!

I was never able to do 2! I always wanted to. I guess it is never too late to learn.

Double jump roping came along well after my jump roping days. Though if I could remember where I probably have a single hand held rope that I used to jump up and down my lane.

Oh how fun! I wouldn't be able to skip rope to save my life...but I sure love watching other people do it! ;)

When we were younger, we double dutched all the time. I probably still could do it today.

Sadly we don't get out into the community anymore. We do fellowship at church though. We feed the homeless, we go to retreats, we do bible studies and we do community out reach. If we are not at home, we are at church or with our church doing something. We live in a very small town, so life here is very laid back.

That sounds so fun!! We barely know our neighbors and I have not "skipped" since I was in elementary school.

Night Owl Mama February 24, 2010 1:42 PM

OH My gosh I didn't think anyone did that any more. Do wish you had a video to share. When I was younger we used to play double dutch.(2 ropes opposite of eachother twirling. Oh How I miss that. WIsh I could teach my daughter and my niece now that would be fun.

Brimful Curiosities February 24, 2010 3:23 PM

Guess it depends on where you live. We have great neighbors and get together often. I used to be pretty good a double dutch jump roping!

corvedacosta February 24, 2010 3:32 PM

i used to do this in the country - fun and good moments with everyone...

certainly we have become communities that does not care about each other...activities like these brings us all together again

Genny February 24, 2010 5:14 PM

How fun! And I love the sense of community you get just from looking at that photo. How wonderful to see people having a great time together like that. :)

Debbie February 24, 2010 5:37 PM

How fun! It is great to see things we have in common with other cultures.

I grew up calling it Jump Roping, and I actually was on a team when I was younger, complete with uniforms, competitions, etc! Fun stuff!

Dave Moody February 24, 2010 7:38 PM

Unfortunately I wasn't able to see your video. It kept saying error. I think you're talking about jumping rope/double dutch they call it with two ropes. I use play that in school & where I was growing up. Tons of fun.. Happy WW

I remember the first time I learned. I was so afraid I'd fall and then I got it and couldn't stop!

I totally have to teach my kids and in my time, we used rope not the fancy skip ropes they have these days that are lighter than a feather!

Gabriel February 25, 2010 12:39 AM

Nina February 26, 2010 3:32 PM

It is kind of sad how we live in a country where we don't do a lot of this and we shy away from knowing our neighbors. Looks like a wonderful time for all and such great spirit.
