Aloha Friday: How do you like your salad?

My Question:
Do you buy salad in a bag or do you make your own salad?
Check out this article on How clean are bagged salads?
Recent Consumer Reports' tests found bacteria that are "common indicators of poor sanitation and fecal contamination" in many of the packaged salad greens it tested.

*******************
I'm too particular about my food to buy bag salads. I'm not saying that I wont, but so far I just can't. I love to buy my own vegetables and WASH/SCRUB them and cut them up and make my own salad. This way I know it is really washed. I'm so OCD that I wash each lettuce leaf and inside the grooves etc.

we generally buy our salad and cut and mix it ourselves! It's for the same reason you do it.. because i want to make sure it's very well washed and all!
Happy Friday and here is my Aloha !!

I buy the fixin's separate and make my own. I used to purchase the one's in the bag til a recall because of salmonella.

Nina March 5, 2010 12:05 PM

I typically buy my lettuce. Now I do buy bagged Spinach salad but I always was it. I don't trust others and I have to know it has been cleaned. Have a wonderful weekend!

Xenia March 5, 2010 12:08 PM

I'm lazy so the bagged salads are right up my alley! I think we have three of them in the fridge right now actually...

Thanks for stopping by, I'm following you now as well. Happy Friday! :)

Upstatemomof3 March 5, 2010 12:57 PM

I make my own but only beacuse it is cheaper - we buy the bags when they are on sale.

Annie March 5, 2010 1:05 PM

I don't buy enough salads that is fore sure! But when I do I get the bagged salad since it is so much faster :)

Happy friday!

I'm 50/50. I usually purchase at least one bagged salad a week, in case I'm short on time and need a veggie with dinner. Otherwise, I make my own...mainly because I like making dressings. Happy you came by. Holly

Xmas Dolly March 5, 2010 6:27 PM

I do both although I prefer to make my own & my own Italian dressing (with secret ingredients~~snicker~) I love salad. I throw everything in their, but the kitchen sink.

SquirrelQueen March 5, 2010 8:31 PM

I usually make my own but sometimes would buy the bagged if I was in a hurry. I read that article earlier this week so I will stick with making my own from now on.

Thanks for stopping by, Happy FF!

Personally I don't think your way is OCD-It's careful preparation of nourishment that is going into your body!! Lol
I like to make my own salad too cause then I know what exactly is going in it-You wouldn't think one could screw up salad but it's more the possible!

Happy Friday!

Felicia March 6, 2010 5:29 PM

I love to make my own.. but if we are in a rush I'll buy it in the bag.

Dana March 6, 2010 6:20 PM

Hi. Returning the Friday Follow ! I love a fresh made salad however...
I usually by it in the bag. It's just easier/faster that way.

Jingle March 7, 2010 3:54 AM
