The Four Loves

The Four Loves (HBJ Modern Classic) The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is a wonderful read. I find that my heart is stretched and I can either go with the wave or fight, curled up in a ball because I am trying so hard to protect my heart, while not fully knowing that this is what I am doing.

I think that I'm defending myself and so I take me away and refuse to give, and hurt, not them, but me in the process.

I do not know better to do, but after I get to think about it, then I try to do better by learning.

How hard it is to freely give your heart....unless it is taken like Eros likes to do.

If you get a chance, rent it from the library. Buy it. Borrow it. Just read it.

"There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possible be broken, If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket-safe, dark, motionless, airless-it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell. "
