I'm constantly amazed at the things I am learning and the new companies I am finding since I began blogging. Marcal Small Steps is one of these companies and they are doing a wonderful job in caring for the environment.
....we at Marcal Manufacturing have prided ourselves as being one of the oldest environmentally friendly paper companies in the US.
Since 1950, Marcal has been helping families take a small step towards making a big difference…with affordable recycled paper products that are good for families and good for the earth!
In 2009, Marcal Manufacturing, LLC, introduced the Marcal® Small Steps® line of 100% recycled bath tissue, towels, napkins and facial tissue for both home consumption and to distributors for commercial use. These products deliver strong performance without the typical “green premium” cost. The name Small Steps® signifies the small and easy steps toward making a difference in the world that you can make by using these recycled paper products.
For over five decades, Marcal has been saving the environment and trees and reducing landfill by making our paper products from recycled paper. We use paper collected from curbs in residential neighborhoods in cities and towns across America–from the small blue baskets in office buildings, unwanted junk mail, and waste from printers–all in an effort to do something good, to produce something that people need.Marcal is an integral part of the northern New Jersey community. Our company uses recyclables from local municipalities and recycling facilities for our paper recycling process.
I received the Marcal starter kit (worth $25) for review.. The starter kit features an assortment of Marcal paper products—toilet paper, napkins, paper towels and facial tissues.
I received this package just before the start of our trip, (driving from Louisiana to Alaska) and was so excited because we know all about kids and eating in the vehicle right? The napkins and paper towels were perfect for these times.
I am a snot factory because of my lifetime bout with sinus issues, and it never usually occurs to me that I should buy facial tissues, instead I use regular half towels and throw them in the wash. But for this trip, I knew I'd need disposables so I loaded my Marcal Small Steps facial tissues along with another brand and felt secured in the containment of my germs.
I also traveled with a pack of the toilet papers just in case there was an emergency when a public restroom along the way was not supplied. I came upon one such situation but it worked out nicely.
All the products worked as they should, but for me, I'd prefer if the facial tissues were a bit softer.
Marcal just re-launched their website (www.marcalsmallsteps.com) featuring the new Save a Tree Calculator. It’s a neat way to see how many trees you and your family could save a year: http://www.marcalsmallsteps.com/learn/tree-calculator
I love that they care so much about our environment and they also have the Marcal starter kit (worth $25) for giveaway to one lucky reader

I learned that "most of the recycled paper used by Marcal® comes from Township and Collection Agencies, and is primarily made up of used magazines, bulk mailings (junk mail), office paper waste and computer print-outs, in addition to scraps or trimmings from printers which would otherwise end up in landfills."

If Marcal is so concerned about the environment, why don't they:
ReplyDelete1) Tell us how to use less paper. There are many ways. Cloth napkins, hanky's and towels all make much more eco-sense. You can use discarded clothes, and be much more green
2) Stop shipping product made in NJ, across the US. That would make a much bigger environmental impact.
3) Clean the river next to their plant, that they have polluted for 50 years and destroyed. Why not clean that up, with their illicit, false green claims to make profits? You can't walk away from your past. Even though they are trying. Try and really be green, not pretend to be green.
Facts, when properly examined, speak for themselves. If you think Marcal is eco-friendly, you have not done your homework.
All of Marcal® Small Steps® Bath Tissue products are septic safe for “Normal Use” in all “Properly Operating Systems”, and, according to a leading consumer publication, Marcal® Small Steps™ brand bath tissue adequately “breaks up” when used in this setting.
