Handgenic - Aloha Friday/ Friday Follow

My Question:
Do you wash your hands before you eat?
*******
Yes I do. I feel like I'm eating germs if I don't. I get my kids to practice this also. It freaks me out that my son's teacher don't let them wash with soap and water. She just put sanitizer on their hands after they use the bathroom, play outside, etc. YUUUUUCK! The minute the boy enter my house (I don't even want him touching the doorknob!) I march him off to the bathroom for a double wash!

Kailani says "In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response."

Help Be Part of the Cure for Alzheimer's

The Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) is encouraging otherwise healthy volunteers with early complaints of memory problems to participate in the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative Grand Opportunity (ADNI GO). ADNI GO will build on the unprecedented momentum and success of the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI), a landmark study to find more sensitive and accurate methods to detect AD at earlier stages and track its progress through biomarkers.

By being able to recognize changes in the brain, scientists hope to treat memory loss and other symptoms of AD before they appear, but the only way to recognize what these changes are and learn more about who is at risk is through the participation of volunteers. “We cannot end this terrible disease unless we know more about it,” says Dr. Paul Aisen, M.D., director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS). “That is where the amazing volunteers, their friends and their families can make the difference in our success.”

If you, a friend, or a family member is experiencing early signs of memory loss, you may be eligible to participate in this groundbreaking ADNI GO study. Please visit http://adcs.org/Studies/ImagineADNI.aspx or call the Alzheimer’s Disease Education and Referral Center at 1-800-438-4380 for more information on study sites in your area.

Share with your family and friends to help shed light on this devastating disease, and encourage participation in ADNI GO.

Thomas Bagel Thins Trim Bagel *NEW* - Tempt My Tummy Tuesdays

I haven't had bagel thins before. I always walk right on pass them in the bread isle. I head straight for my favorite cinnamon bagels and stand there for 15 minutes trying to figure out how many I need and how to get the ones off the back of the shelf that has the longest expire date.

But this week I had bagel thins for breakfast and sometimes lunch and sometimes snack! I have a whole lot of bagel thins to sample.

Thomas Bagel Thins Plain Bagels
  • 110 Calories
  • Good source of fiber (4g)
  • Good source of thiamin and folic acid
  • Low in fat

Thomas Bagel Thins 100% Whole Wheat Bagels
  • 110 calories
  • 21 grams of whole grains
  • Excellent source of fiber (5g)
  • Low in fat

Thomas Bagel Thins Everything Bagels
  • 110 calories
  • Excellent source of fiber (5g)
  • Good source of thiamin
  • Low in fat

We had the trim bagels with strawberry jelly only, jelly and peanut butter, nutella, butter, cheese, both toasted and  not toasted! I even tried the egg sandwich! Yes please add bacon :)

There are so many ways to eat these and they are light enough for snack or breakfast. My son loves it with peanut butter and jelly. Baby girl rather just jelly :)

Thomas’ Bagel Thins is introducing the first trim bagel option - each soft and delicious Bagel Thin is just the right size, containing 110 calories each.  They’re available in 100% Whole Wheat, Cinnamon Raisin, Everything and Plain and can now be purchased at supermarkets, Walmart and Target stores nationwide.

I happen to like Bagel thins and if it wasn't for these samples, I'd have kept walking right on past them in the store. Guess what's on my shopping list now? And even if it's not on the list, I can't miss it because it's right there beside my bagels :)

Do you eat  or prepare Bagel thins? What do you like it with?

I can't wait to try them with cream cheese! Oooh! YUM!

I thought I was only getting the trim bagels to sample but it all came in a wonderful surprise package that included a toaster! I never thought I'd own a toaster! Life is so funny eh.
A sample of Seriously Strawberry jelly and Crunch Time peanut butter from Peanut Butter & co were also included in the package.

Visit them and see what else you might want to try on your next menu.

Love The Way You Lie - Monday Music Moves Me/Meet Me Monday

Later this week a movie premieres that I really want to watch. It's on Lifetime (I think) and it's called Reviving Ophelia. You might have seen it, but it's about domestic abuse and I've seen abuse (in a relationship) in all forms. I hope you do get to watch it and this song for today reminded me of this and it also made me wonder if this was what Chris Brown did to her (Rihanna).

Love the way you lie

Lyrics
Just gonna stand there
And watch me burn
But that's alright
Because I like
The way it hurts
Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that's alright
Because I love
The way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
***

I can't tell you what it really is
I can only tell you what it feels like
And right now there's a steel knife
In my windpipe
I can't breathe
But I still fight
While I can fight
As long as the wrong feels right
It's like I'm in flight
High of a love
Drunk from the hate
It's like I'm huffing paint
And I love it the more that I suffer
I sufficate
And right before im about to drown
She resuscitates me
She f*****g hates me
And I love it
Wait
Where you going
I'm leaving you
No you ain't
Come back
We're running right back
Here we go again
It's so insane
Cause when it's going good
It's going great
I'm Superman
With the wind in his bag
She's Lois Lane
But when it's bad
It's awful
I feel so ashamed
I snap
Who's that dude
I don't even know his name
I laid hands on her
I'll never stoop so low again
I guess I don't know my own strength
***

Just gonna stand there
And watch me burn
But that's alright
Because I like
The way it hurts
Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that's alright
Because I love
The way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
***

You ever love somebody so much
You can barely breathe
When you're with them
You meet
And neither one of you
Even know what hit 'em
Got that warm fuzzy feeling
Yeah them chills
Used to get 'em
Now you're getting f*****g sick
Of looking at 'em
You swore you've never hit 'em
Never do nothing to hurt 'em
Now you're in each other's face
Spewing venom
And these words
When you spit 'em
You push
Pull each other's hair
Scratch, claw, bit 'em
Throw 'em down
Pin 'em
So lost in the moments
When you're in 'em
It's the rage that took over
It controls you both
So they say it's best
To go your separate ways
Guess that they don't know ya
Cause today
That was yesterday
Yesterday is over
It's a different day
Sound like broken records
Playin' over
But you promised her
Next time you'll show restraint
You don't get another chance
Life is no Nintendo game
But you lied again
Now you get to watch her leave
Out the window
Guess that's why they call it window pane
***

Just gonna stand there
And watch me burn
But that's alright
Because I like
The way it hurts
Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that's alright
Because I love
The way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
***

Now I know we said things
Did things
That we didn't mean
And we fall back
Into the same patterns
Same routine
But your temper's just as bad
As mine is
You're the same as me
But when it comes to love
You're just as blinded
Baby please come back
It wasn't you
Baby it was me
Maybe our relationship
Isn't as crazy as it seems
Maybe that's what happens
When a tornado meets a volcano
All I know is
I love you too much
To walk away though
Come inside
Pick up your bags off the sidewalk
Don't you hear sincerity
In my voice when I talk
Told you this is my fault
Look me in the eyeball
Next time I'm pissed
I'll aim my fist
At the dry wall
Next time
There will be no next time
I apologize
Even though I know it's lies
I'm tired of the games
I just want her back
I know I'm a liar
If she ever tries to f****g leave again
I'mma tie her to the bed
And set the house on fire
***

Just gonna stand there
And watch me burn
But that's alright
Because I like
The way it hurts
Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that's alright
Because I love
The way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

Ragú® Feed Our Kids Well

Tonight is Friday. Based on stereotype, we are supposed to have fast food for dinner and no one is supposed to cook, but because money is short in this family, I have to ensure to cook and keep leftovers handy. Actually it's not just because money is short. I always cook and we rarely ever have fast food.

Yesterday Thursday, was the last leftover chicken, so that meant I had to cook a new meal for today Friday. I was quite anxious and felt to scream, but at the market I found a pasta mix  with vegetable and I added some hot dogs slices and basil and a few other spices and dinner was done. I thought it would taste awful but was rather delighted that it was yum!

These days cooking is no longer fun for me all the time. Now it's something that must be done four my family to eat and healthily. I don't want to do meals that take up too much time whenever I cook, so next time I'll be trying out the new Ragú® Old World Style® Traditional Sauce.
It promises to give my kids 2 servings of veggies in every half cup.
You have seen those advertisements about veggies in pasta sauces right? :) I love them.

This will be available soon in major retailers nationwide. The Ragu Old World Style Traditional pasta sauce has a naturally thicker taste the whole family will love and perfect for quick and tasty meals during your busy schedule as a parent.

Be the first to taste Ragu with 2 servings of veggies in every half-cup, visit them on facebook.com/ragusauce for more details.

I was entered for a chance to win a Ragu prize package in exchange for this post. No monetary exchange took place. See my disclosure

Save Your Sight Month - Eye Care America Promotes Healthy Eyes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-

EyeCare America Promotes Healthy Eyes During September’s Save Your Sight Month

Health Campaign Exposes Five Common Eye Care Myths
August 23, 2010 – San Francisco, CA - EyeCare America, a national non-profit organization that provides eye exams and eye health information to medically underserved communities is exposing five common eye care myths in honor of September’s Save Your Sight Month.

Five Common Eye Care Myths:

1. Reading, sewing or doing other close work in dim light can damage your eyes.
Fact: Reading in dim light can cause eye fatigue, but it will not damage your eyes. Good lighting will make reading easier and will prevent eye fatigue, especially for older people whose lenses no longer change shape as easily as they did when they were younger.

2. Carrots are the key to good vision
Fact: Yes, carrots are rich in vitamin A and beta-carotene, which are essential for maintaining good sight. But carrots are not the only eye healthy food. If you’re not a fan of carrots, don’t worry, there are plenty of other foods to choose from. For more beta-carotene rich choices, look for deep orange or yellow fruits and vegetables such as cantaloupe, mangos, apricots, peaches, and sweet potatoes.

3. Using computers can damage your eyes
Fact: Looking at your computer monitors will not harm your eyes. Often, when using a computer for long periods of time, just as when reading or doing other close work, you blink less often than normal. This reduced rate of blinking makes your eyes dry, which may lead to the feeling of eyestrain or fatigue.

4. Older people who gain ‘second sight’ may be developing cataracts
Fact: Older individuals who wear reading eyeglasses sometimes find themselves able to read without their eyeglasses and think that their eyesight is improving. The truth is they are becoming more nearsighted, which can be a sign of early cataract development.
5. You only need an eye exam if you notice that your vision is deteriorating
Fact: There are a variety of vision conditions and diseases that lack clear warning signs. Often times, only a comprehensive dilated eye exam can confirm that your eyes are healthy and disease-free. In many instances damage caused by eye disease cannot be reversed which is why it is important to get regular eye exams.

In honor of that final fact and September’s Save Your Sight month, EyeCare America encourages people to visit its online referral center at www.eyecareamerica.org to see if they qualify for a sight-saving eye exam and care, often at no-out-of-pocket cost.

This online referral center also enables friends and family members to find out instantly if their loved ones are eligible to be matched with an EyeCare America volunteer ophthalmologist.

All eligible patients receive a referral to one of 7,000 EyeCare America volunteer ophthalmologists.  They also receive a comprehensive eye exam and care for any disease detected in the initial visit for up to one year, at no out-of-pocket cost.

The program facilitates eye care for U.S. citizens or legal residents who are without an ophthalmologist and who do not belong to an HMO or do not have eye care coverage through the Veterans Administration. To be found eligible for the program an individual should fall into one of the two categories below.

Those who are age 65 or older and who have not seen an ophthalmologist in three or more years may be eligible to receive a comprehensive, medical eye exam and up to one year of care at no out-of-pocket cost for any disease diagnosed during the initial exam.
Volunteer ophthalmologists will waive co-payments, accepting Medicare and /or other insurance reimbursement as payment in full. Patients without insurance receive this care at no charge.
·   Those who are determined to be at increased risk for glaucoma (by age, race and family history) and have not had an eye exam in 12 months or more may be eligible to receive a free glaucoma eye exam if they are uninsured.
Those with insurance will be billed for the exam and are responsible for any co-payments. The initiation of treatment is provided, if deemed necessary by the doctor during the exam.
To see immediately if you, a loved one or a friend,  is eligible to receive a referral for an eye exam and care, visit www.eyecareamerica.org.

EyeCare America is co-sponsored by the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Inc., with additional support provided by Alcon. The program is endorsed by state and subspecialty ophthalmology societies.

About EyeCare America

Established in 1985, EyeCare America, the public service program of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, is committed to the preservation of sight, accomplishing its mission through public service and education.  EyeCare America provides eye care services to  medically underserved seniors and  those at increased risk for eye disease through its corps of 7,000 volunteer ophthalmologists dedicated to serving their communities.  More than 90 percent of the care made available is provided at no out-of-pocket cost to the patients.  Since its inception, EyeCare America has helped more than 1 million people.  EyeCare America is a non-profit program whose success is made possible through charitable contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations.  More information can be found at:www.eyecareamerica.org
