Black Ice, Snow, Big wheels - Montana Into Canada - LA To AK Vacation Trip

May 6-7
We are driving all night through Montana and into Canada.

We are hoping to be on time and not miss our ferry.

The drive is harrowing! We are dealing with black ice on the road and snow. It's dangerous. Dh already got out twice to check the road and tires to see if it's ok to go on.

We just saw a couple in a ditch, we asked if they were alright about 3 times and they said yes. It seems one was pushing the car out while the other drive etc... We still crawled away, just in case they got into more trouble and needed help. Dh was the one asking and I was half asleep. Hopefully they didn't say no out of fear.

They got back on the road and all was well, so we finally tried to go on but couldn't proceed more than a few feet. The ice on the road was so bad that our tires were just spinning.

We dropped into four wheel drive and that did the trick to get us going again. Did I mention how much I like this truck? :)

The beauty is often breathtaking to be surrounded by the vastness of it.
On our way down there and around the bend :)
You Canadians might know where that is
 Ahh the scenery!
Haven't seen those sheep up close and personal before.
These were right outside our window. We saw quite a few of them!
 It's a beautiful view.

I have something like this already (not a wand) and my kids love it and fight over it too much. However it's good to help them work and share together.

How would you like to draw on the walls or even the ceiling without Mom and Dad going through the roof? Now, thanks to GlowCrazy, kids can draw and write with light from a distance and embrace their creativity without doing any damage or getting in trouble from mom and dad.

Unlike other glow toys, the GlowCrazy Distance Doodler Magic Lightwand works from 10 feet away. The dual-action glow-beam generator makes it easy to draw and write with skinny lines, or make your magic with wide paths of light, perfect for creating silhouettes and other exciting designs. The Jumbo removable peel-and-stick wall clings can be placed on the wall, the ceiling or any other flat surface, and removed quickly and easily, with no damage and no sticky residue.

“GlowCrazy is not only fun and educational, but it’s also great for building hand-eye coordination in kids while spurring their creativity,” “And, it’s even something families can do together—GlowCrazy is great for playing tic-tac-toe, glow-in-the-dark target practice and other creative games.”

Perfect for anyone age six and up, the GlowCrazy Distance Doodler provides fun and wholesome entertainment that encourages kids to explore their creative side. GlowCrazy also offers the Doodle Dome and Glow-to-Go products for kids ages 3 and up.

Already an international hit, each GlowCrazy kit includes the Dual-Action Distance Doodler Magic Lightwand, two jumbo canvas wall clings, four stencils to help you create magical designs and tip booklet filled with games and design ideas to help you GlowCrazy, all for just $24.99. As an added bonus, orders placed online at www.glowcrazy.com come with a free bonus wide-beam Glow Wand, double the sheets of GlowCrazy canvas and four additional stencils for even more GlowCrazy fun.

When you find a good book, you pass it around! I'm hearing good things about this one. Do you want to read it?

From Booklist

*Starred Review* Gottlieb, 37, made the decision to become a single parent after years of searching for Mr. Right. Four years later, when she still hadn’t found him, she decided to take a good look at her dating habits—and the dating habits of women around her—to see if the problem is not a dearth of good men but rather women’s expectations of them.

Gottlieb finds that women want it all—and often aren’t willing to compromise on their list of traits their ideal mate must have. In their twenties, many women leave good relationships based on an elusive feeling that they could find something more with someone else, and they regret it down the road when their choices dwindle.
It’s not that women aren’t willing to settle; it’s that many refuse to recognize that their vision of the perfect man doesn’t match reality. With the help of dating coach Evan Marc Katz, Gottlieb reconsidered her own standards in the hope of finding happiness. Gottlieb’s honest, astute analysis will resonate with many women and make them uneasy as they recognize themselves in her experiences and those of the women she interviews. Gottlieb makes a strong case in this groundbreaking work. --Kristine Huntley

Review

"Marry Him is a frank and funny read, weaving real people's stories with Gottlieb's own experiences, and containing sharp examinations of how society and culture-everything from When Harry Met Sally to The Bachelor-come into play when modern women look for love."
-The New York Observer

"A provocative pop culture treatise... she encourages us to think through our own beliefs and unexamined assumptions."
-The Chicago Tribune

"A funny cautionary tale of one woman's journey through the modern landscape of dating."
-Library Journal

"A well-conceived and convincing argument on how to find a more realistic Mr. Right. If you've ever sought your own Prince Charming, your love life will never be the same again. And that's a good thing."
-Christian Science Monitor

"A sensible plea to discard the toxic fantasy of romantic comedies and think realistically about what makes a solid partnership."
-Salon

"This impeccably researched tome is mandatory reading."
-The Huffington Post

"Funny and relatable... anything but antiromance."
-People magazine

Sounds like something you'd love to cuddle with? You can get it hardcover or kindle

NFCC 2011 National Financial Literacy Poster Contest

As a parent, you know your children will learn the importance of making smart
money choices
through experience. But did you know financial experts agree that starting early in life is one of the keys to later financial success?

I would love to share about a fun chance for children of
all ages to get a head start towards a smart financial future!

In an effort to increase interest in financial literacy to our nation's youth,
the NFCC is once again sponsoring the 2011 Be Money-Wise National Financial
Literacy
Poster Contestand has chosen "Be a $uperhero! $ave Money!" as this
year's theme.

The contest is a great way to get young students thinking about
how to manage money effectively, and offers them a creative outlet to
demonstrate their knowledge.
The contest also provides the opportunity for local and national recognition for student artwork, and rewards the winners with US savings bonds as well as other prizes!

Do you have a child or children in mind that you feel has the talent and
creativity to win? All school-aged children in grades 3-12 are eligible to enter
with local and national winners to be chosen from each of three grade
categories. Students from public, private, and home-schools are welcome.

Entries will be judged by expression of the theme (above), artistic style, creativity, and must be submitted through an NFCC Member Agency for judging.

*The submission deadline for poster entries is in February 2011, varying by each specific member agency.

National finalists will be judged in Washington, DC in mid-March and placed in
contention for three national awards, one per each of the three grade
categories.
An overall national winner will then be chosen from the three
category winners. The winner will be presented with the national award plaque as well as a $500 savings bond during Financial Literacy Month in Washington, DC at the JumpStart Coalition's Annual Awards Dinner in April!

Parents are encouraged to visit www.moneywisepostercontest.org to find rules,
entry forms, and submission details.

Encourage a child to get involved today!

Blog Ownership - Aloha Friday / Friday Memes

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too.

Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

QUESTIONS:
1. How many blogs do you own?
2. Have you been to a blog conference as yet?

I make my own burgers. And they are double stacked! The kids love the extra veggies. Dh still takes mustard and I always opt for mayonnaise. Now if only he'll let me make his my way :)

I am also joining in with Friday Follow. So if you happen to visit and follow me, I will definitely be returning the love.

The Boy And I Have An Agreement

He is five years old and he is learning alot of things. Sometimes I take awhile to realize, that something I'm doing for him, he should be practicing on his own so he can get more independence. But I'm learning to share and let go just as he is :)

He is learning to brush properly. I am very insistent about my children learning how to take care of their teeth. We must brush twice a day unless we just can't help it.

So our arrangement has been  for him to brush in the mornings. Less gunk I think and good practice for him. And I will brush his teeth before his bedtime at night. This way I get all the plaque and stuff that sits there as he eats throughout the day.

It's working out well. He loves to do it and there are no war of wills. Maybe it's the fact that he is able to light up his toothbrush! I'm thinking of getting him one of those battery operated ones sometime.
We've been doing this arrangement for awhile now and soon he'll be able to do it on his own.

The next phase is to teach him how to use the mouth rinse. I'm not sure he is ready as yet. He keeps asking me. We'll see.

I can't chance him swallowing.

And then soon we'll visit the dentist.

I've already discussed and research the fact that he'll lose his teeth soon and get permanent ones. I think he understands. He'll be more fascinated when they begin coming out.
I want him to learn about all the changes that will be happening to his body as he grows up. Nothing should be off limits to discuss.

I'm not sure though how to deal with the toothfairy. I didn't grow up with this sort of thing and so I find it to be just a story but you know how kids get. So I'm questioning myself. Should I give him fairy money? Or should I gloss over it and just celebrate him changing? Or....

But for now we have an understanding :)
How does your family handle teeth brushing with your kids?
