Teaching Kids Responsibility, Charity And Rewards - My Job Chart

My children are ages four and six and I am teaching them little by little about responsibility for so many areas in their lives that will help them to be strong individuals as they grow up.

One of their first chores that they requested to do was helping to unload the dishwasher. I was very surprised because they were so young at the time. However that's a constant with them now and their other chores include cleaning up their room, putting toys away, making their beds etc. Just little things that I want them to grow up learning to be better at as they mature and will take on bigger chores.

I've explained to them about being a part of our family and how important it is to help with the daily living in our family so that things can go a lot smoother. Being involved doesn't just include playing and eating and having fun, it also means each person have to be responsible in taking the lead and doing the chores that they are expected to do and also helping wherever they see the need.

I do have a little chore chart and I also do little rewards. Something they work up to with little scores or by getting a treat right after doing something unexpected and thoughtful.

I've given both my children their own little piggy banks when they turned three years old so giving them little coins after chores also teaches them about money and savings and still is a great reward system. There are times when they get to keep some of their money for spending and we get to discuss about being a buyer and consumer and bartering.

I've just learned about this great program called My Job Chart online and I am going to be using this for a little while to see how it works in our family. It seems to be a great system and certainly more organized than mine!

I've been searching for awhile now for a great rewards/chore chart system and I'm just happy to find something that is moving with the times and not just stuck on one thing but will help growth in many areas for my children and our family.

It's great to see how kids and responsibility can boost a family's every day living.

I admit when I was a child, the words kids and allowance was never spoken. In my country, you as a child have to learn to do what the adults do so that you can help out as soon as you can. I didn't think about my family this way. I didn't want to repeat what I saw most families did in my country, by giving a child too much responsibility without respect and any form of rewards or even just getting in there and helping the child to do the chore. It's ok for parents to help.
So I knew I'd only give my children chores that were age appropriate and also open to learning and discussion.
I think every family with children should have something like this program in their home. It's so disheartening to see children having no accountability or any idea of what it means to be responsible. Children are our future, we can't just let them grow willy nilly. We have to help them be able to become strong leaders and citizens in our future.

I love this new program and I can't wait to start using it!  It fits perfectly with our life and what I teach my children.

  • Currently there are 125,367 kids using MJC and hundreds of kids added each day!
Take the time to really check out My Job Chart and try it with your family!
