From Alpha Bitch To Empowered Female

It's fun to find new books and get some time to read in the car riders line :) Yes I take my break there. I go early so I can sit for quite a little while and eat and read. :)

A new book I've been reading is: Taming Your Alpha Bitch - How to be fierce and feminine (and get everything you want)

Today’s working women have broken through the glass ceiling and become influential leaders, respected entrepreneurs and successful small business owners. While their achievements are abundant, many have determined that being the stereotypical “damsel in distress” is not the way to make their dreams come true. However, in their quest for a place at the table, some have taken up a more male way of working and become what authors Christy Whitman and Rebecca Grado call the hyper-aggressive Alpha Bitch.

In the new book Taming Your Alpha Bitch: How to be Fierce and Feminine (and Get Everything You Want!) due out January 31, 2012, authors Christy Whitman and Rebecca Grado offer up a modern strategy and tactics for women who have failed in their quest to claim power through a forceful “take no prisoners” approach. The book outlines five types of Alpha Bitches:
  • The Forceful Alpha rules with an iron fist and has a take-no-prisoners approach to life and love.
  • The Controlling Alpha is relentlessly outspoken, arguing for her position until those around her cave in to her demands.
  • The Competitive Alpha goes into overdrive when she hears about the accomplishments or acquisitions of another and constantly looks over her shoulder to see who is doing what — and who might be poised to outdo her in some way.
  • The Disruptive Alpha suffers from a near constant need for attention that drives her to do almost anything to secure her share of the spotlight and claim her rightful place at center stage.
  • The Lack Alpha spends much of her time in a state of scarcity, fear and panic, which causes her to always look for what is wrong and imagine the worst is about to happen.
Their new model is The Empowered Female, a woman who creates freedom, joy and abundance by attracting those things she wants with ease and effortlessness. Her key characteristics are allowing, collaborating and being balanced. She knows how to catch herself when she tries to dominate others through force and instead calls on her feminine power to create the outcomes she desires.

“True power comes from within,” says Christy Whitman. “Re-establish an inner connection with that unlimited source, and that which you’ve been trying to obtain will be magnetized to you naturally.”

Which Type of Alpha Bitch Are You? Take The Quiz.

You arrive at the much-anticipated 40th birthday party that you planned for your best friend, only to discover that the caterer mixed your order up with that of another client.
You are most likely to…

A. Steer your friend away from the food table and toward other things; you’ll never be able to look at yourself in the mirror again if she realizes you’re not perfect.

B. Scream at the hapless delivery guy, lock yourself in the bathroom “Jersey Shore” style or create a similar scene so that your dissatisfaction is apparent to everyone in attendance.

C. Immediately get the caterer on the phone and use every tool in your arsenal — including intimidation and threats — to rectify the situation.

D. Make a detailed list of everything that isn’t right, and a more thorough list still of exactly what needs to be done to fix it.

E. Worry about how the catering company’s error could result in a loss of money, love or respect for you.

If you chose “A,” the competitive alpha, you’re acutely aware of how you measure up against others and spend a fair amount of time and effort trying to prove that you’re smarter, prettier or more successful than others. Feeling superior is one way to boost your ego, but it comes at the expense of trust, intimacy and true friendship. By learning how to collaborate rather than compete, you’ll more effortlessly attract success into your life while allowing others to do the same.

If you selected “B,” the disruptive alpha, your life is most likely filled with some kind of saga, scandal or issue demanding your attention. The commotion you bring into social and professional situations may provide a short-lived burst of excitement, but in the long run, you risk losing the attention and admiration of those around you. Cultivating balance and harmony will immediately improve your relationships, while streamlining your efforts to achieve your goals.

If you answered “C,” the forceful alpha, you know how to spur others to action — but you may be inadvertently stepping on a few toes in the process. While you probably enjoy the fact that most people bend to your will, this approach also creates an atmosphere of fear, tension or intimidation. Acting from a place of authentic power, rather than wielding force, magnetizes the outcomes you want through the fluid, feminine qualities of ease and grace.

If you chose “D,” the controlling alpha, you probably feel annoyed, restless or agitated anytime someone other than you is calling the shots, and as a result, your behavior may be undermining your relationships, peace of mind and enjoyment of life. Adopting a mindset of allowing will take you farther and faster toward fulfillment than controlling ever did — and with a lot less stress.

Finally, if you chose “E,” the lack alpha, it’s likely that you are more frequently driven by anxiety than you are motivated by possibility, and you’re probably more aware of everything you’re lacking than appreciative for all that you have. By deliberately acknowledging the resources that already exist within you, your anxiety will dissipate and you’ll become more receptive to the opportunities that are all around you.

Which one are you?
I'm E.
Sad eh.

Anyway, I'm learning to be empowered!
