Old As A Child New As An Adult

It's amazing the things you will learn are not real and how you will outgrow them, but still have the memories.

When I was much younger, I was told that at the hour of the new year, I should be doing something I love because that will be how my year will be the for the rest of the year.

So if you are angry, guess what?
or sad, having a fight, depressed, scared etc.

I actually tried doing even just one thing on that hour to help me through the year. I smiled. In my situation, that was all I could do. There were no parties or hanging out with friends or being with a family.  So I smiled. I pushed away the feeling of loneliness and smiled just for that one hour and watched other happy people on tv.

Now I'm all grown up and I know how silly that was to do those things and listened to that belief, but somehow it helped even just a little.

I don't make resolutions. I make one. To grow as a person. That's it. So I'm always working on me. It's amazing how things and people and change can affect the human heart and if you aren't careful, one day you'll be a stranger to yourself.
So I try to ensure I'm steering my heart, head and emotions so that they don't get pulled away into stringy directions and leave me hallow.
Protect your heart.
Tis precious to who you are and will be.

Happy New Year to you dear ones.

  1. Thank you for your words of wisdom. I'll be trying to do something I like at the start of the new year too. Happy New Year to you!

  2. It's funny how many people who have very similar ideas as the one you expressed here about what you are doing at the "hour". Many new years have come and gone. A few that I was sick in the bed, but the year turned out fine. I love what your conclusion was - if we but work on ourselves allowing God to work in us and through us the rest will fall into place and gain it's perspective.

I am so sorry that you do not have the childhood photos to cherish, but hope that as you continue on this leg of your journey that you have compiled some that will bring you much joy in their memories and that they will only get better. You are such a wonderful, spiritual and loving person that I know you have touched many others, and the evidence will be overwhelming one day. May God bless you with a happy and a healthy new year this year and forever.

  5. You know, I heard the same thing growing up. However, I really can't remember how I spent that last hour of each year. :-)

Hope you have a wonderful 2012! And yes, we should all keep working on "me".

  6. You know, as silly as it may sound, I think it's one of the best pieces of advice I've heard to date!

Because you are totally right: You should start something like a new year with something that makes you feel good :)

It just sets the tone for the rest of the year to come!

Thank you for some great advice ^.^
