Seems so long ago when I had a newborn and worried about all the new things that I would be dealing with as a new mom. Along with how much they should eat, sleep, pee and what color was also cradle cap worries.  I knew I had to deal with that but I can't really remember how bad it was.

How Often Do You Cook Dinner?

I cook maybe two times a week and used the rest for leftovers.

Do You Eat Breakfast?

I always do breakfast. Especially because I have a child who attends school. Of course in the back of my mind is the constant reminder/knowledge of the health benefits of breakfast.

Sometimes I make eggs, or bagels, or toasts or hot cereal and every so often I relax my schedule with cold cereal.

I got the chance to try Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereal and while my kids still wanted their CM, the hubs and I like these very much. It was something new to try. I am picking up a regualar size for our family soon.

I love the taste and that it has my fiber and protein and other essential vitamins to keep me satisfied.

So I hope you celebrated the National Cereal Day and National School Breakfast Week with Quaker!

For quite awhile I loved cinnamon raisin, but now I'm loving the wheat and whole wheat with nutella spread

 I'm tempted to say food because we don't have any money right now and need groceries. But honestly I want to get myself  a pair of earrings.

3.  What is the last thing that you felt guilt about doing?  

 Shutting my room door and watching my favorite tv show

4.  Soft serve ice cream or hand dipped?  

 Hand dipped it is and my favorite place to go is Coldstone. If only they had one here!

5.  Are you allergic to anything?

Strawberries. I didnt know either until one day I dived into the delicious pile my MIL had washed and put out to dry and broke out in hives all over! 

I still eat them, but only 3 or 4 at a time.

In Your Child Shoes

There are many times I've seen my children's lives mirrored something I went through as a child and I can either deal with it as how it was dealt with me then or I can find a healthier way to love and support my children. 

A chunk of my childhood was unhealthy in how I was raised and it has affected me on so many levels, but I'm so glad that I can quickly see the parallels and make a different choice. I don't always see this until after but I get the chance to apologize and ask forgiveness from my children. 

We must not forget we were children once and in our children we can see many of the things we used to do.

Do you remember you childhood and are you able to make healthier choices in how you will support your child? Or are you in adult frame all the time and not able to recall how you felt as a child and how you wished you were supported or cared for in certain situations? 

Temporary Difficulties

You've been through the same type of difficulties your children are facing now, whether as preschoolers, school-age kids or teenagers. But have you forgotten what it was really like to be their age? When they suffer setbacks, are you there to give them the emotional support they need--from someone who's been there?

Our oldest daughter, Ashley, tried out for the cheerleading squad three times in a row but failed to be chosen on each occasion. Still, she decided to give it one final effort during her junior year, and this time we went all out.

I arranged for her to take lessons. I videotaped her practicing. Together we critiqued her moves. We prayed and prayed about it, feeling surer each time that God wanted her to make the team this year. It would give her a strong platform for influencing her public school for Christ. 

But when the tryouts came around, she didn't make it. This time, I was as heartbroken as she was. It seemed so unfair. We cried for hours, so upset that she had to endure this loss a fourth time in a row.

I could have said to her, "Ashley, cheerleading really isn't all that important. You're making too much of a fuss over this." But this was the most important thing in her life at the time, and she needed me to let her know it was okay for her to cry, to feel sad . . . even to wonder why God had said no again.

Through an amazing set of circumstances, Ashley ended up being selected for the squad a week later. But as I look back on that experience now, I realize that the biggest thing God accomplished in our lives at that time was to knit our souls together, mother and daughter, in sorrow.

My Best Friend, Abe Lincoln: A Tale Of Two Boys From Indiana

We are lover of books in this house. We devour them. My 4 year old and 5 year old read so well that sometimes I just have to stop and look long at them in their worlds. 

We have acquired a new book. 

"My Best Friend, Abe Lincoln: A tale of two boys from Indian" is a good book which is both fiction and not fiction. I like that it makes the kids ask questions while reading. They are also learning about one of the President, new words and getting their minds fed. 

It's good to see another child talk about his best friend and all the things he likes about him and  all the adventures they have together. 

They even discussed the topic of slavery which opened more questions from the little ones. Other topics were about his presidency and his role in ending slavery in this country. 

It's a wonderful book and I love that my children have this in their arsenal of books.

My Best Friend, Abe Lincoln, looks at the early life of Abraham Lincoln (11-14 years old, 1820-1823) through the eyes of a fictional best friend, as he grows up in southwestern Indiana and changes from a young country boy with pants always too short to the sixteenth President of the United States!

 The two boys share a love for the outdoors and adventure.  They attend a “blab school,” where a dozen children aged six to twelve repeat their lessons aloud until they have memorized them by heart—a practice that makes for a noisy classroom. 

Sam is fond of Abe, who is tall and skinny and grows so fast that his pants always seem to be too short. He admires his friend’s amazing memory for new words and thoughts, saying he was “…just about as smart as our teacher.”

 Bloch said “The story shows how if one puts their mind to working hard and treating people fairly and honestly, you can become anything you want to become in life—friendships and relationships are a very important factor.”

His inspiration for the book came in part from a family legacy.
