Romancing Myself - Valentine

My husband isn't the romantic type...then he could say the same thing about me because apparently I'm living the romance part in my head, so I'm not sure I should even expect a card and I'm not sure if I should give him a card either, which is just weird right? I think maybe he would send flowers, but early in our marriage I told him that I would rather a potted plant to tend than flowers that would just die in a few days. I guess I didn't want him to just take the easy 'flower giving' way out during the holidays.

I figured now I"ll have to buy flowers for myself if I want it. A girl likes surprise flowers in it's rare moments. Just not cliche flowers.

I know what I would like though and since I can have a version of it and still be alright. I'll be romancing myself.

I'll be lopping up the music and feasting on my favorite chocolates and all things sweet with a splash or two of water to keep my body responsive.

I don't really care for the bombardment of Valentines Day anyway, I think romance and lovey gooey should be measured out throughout the daily livings in our homes and not just set for one day to upchuck all at once and then go back to borderline ignoring each other.

I'm a simple girl. I'm still a kid at heart. Just talk to me, help with the dishes and dance with me a little.

What about you? What do you do on Valentines? Or How do you feel about it?

  1. Valentine's Day for me has always been a day that I try to ignore. For me, it is always someone else that gets the romantic date night and gifts. I keep telling myself that if I don't buy into the romantic notions being pushed on us by retailers than I won't have unrealistic expectations and therefore, I will get through the day with my emotions intact.

  2. Hubby tells me that these little symbols of love don't mean anything because they could just mean the person is trying to put on a show or make up for wrongdoing. I will probably not get even a valentine's wish but I prefer that over someone giving me something then being abusive the next day. I hope you have a beautiful valentines day!

  3. What a beautiful, true sentiment that I COMPLETELY agree with! I will admit that I get caught up in the flash of Valentine's Day, but the rational side of me says the same thing-flowers, as nice as they are, are just expensive and die. Cards are expensive and you're just going to end up throwing them away or stashing them somewhere to collect dust. Etc Etc Etc.

I think being in love and showing it should last 365 days a year, not just a day the greeting card company says you should show it!

I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day because you deserve it :)

  4. I'm the one who's not a romantic at my house. I don't like all that lovey dovey crap at all. It's just annoying to me. lol

  5. We used to go out to a restaurant on Valentine's day before our daughter was born, now we stay home and celebrate together. Hubby usually gets me flowers which is nice to help brighten the house while there is so much snow outside.
