I am doing the Progressive Snapshot testdrive.
I found something new in my car! I love learning about my vehicle.
I plugged in the snapshots and now I'm behaving! Haha! What? Yes, I am behaving.
But now I try to leave earlier so that I don't feel the need to drive over other drivers.
I haven't seen my savings as yet. I want to give it a week before peeking, but I think it's pretty cool the little snapshot device and I hope they aren't recording me swearing in the car!
Naw!
Right now it's all about getting the kids to school on time. So, I'm the morning and evening chauffeur and every now and then we'll go to the library or the store for groceries. In the summer, I was way busier! Now I'm doing this program and I'm all but stationary!
Here is how it works :)
“Snapshot®, and what is sure to follow in its evolution, is a meaningful start toward
personalized insurance pricing based on real–time measurement of your driving behavior—
the statistics of one.” —Glenn Renwick, 2011 Letter to the Shareholders
PROGRESSIVE’S MODEL – ‘SNAPSHOT®’
With Progressive’s patented data collection program—called Snapshot—customers plug a small device into the on-board diagnostic (OBD) port in their car. The device collects and transmits data to Progressive on the time of day the car is driven, hard brakes and total mileage. Progressive then factors the data into the customer’s rate calculation. After 30 days, the company can offer the customer a discount of up to 30 percent.

Content and/or other value provided by our partner, Progressive.
Snapshot is now available to policyholders in 42 states and the District of Columbia. And having seen the predictive power of this data, Progressive has launched a major expansion of Snapshot. Drivers now don’t need to be a current Progressive customer to enroll in a 30-day free trial, during which they can learn whether their personal driving habits qualify them for additional savings of up to 30 percent off Progressive’s auto insurance rates. They can then compare that price to the rate they currently pay with their existing insurer.
Drivers who test drive Snapshot can track their potential savings on a daily basis during their trial.
IMPLICATIONS FOR CONSUMERS
As driving data becomes more available, rates will become far more individualized—and fairer—than they are today.

I once traveled from Michigan to California on Greyhound. The trip took 3 or 4 days something like that. Mishap 1 : Sheriff pulled bus over in this small town and arrested him. I got a free hotel night.
ReplyDeleteMishap 2 : bus was late 5 hours leaving one city and I was angry I got another hotel stay.
Mishap 3 : bus was driving down the freeway at night and I actually saw the Greyhound bus run over a greyhound that wandered into the freeway I heard **thump thump thump**
Mishap 4 : Bus broke down on the side of the road.
what a nightmare trip!!
Fun travel moment Carlsbad Caverns New Mexico. That was a great time. But all that walking is very hard on the feet. But you see a lot of beauty and very interesting features on that long walk.
