Me Intoxicated - Aloha

I was intoxicated once.

I was a child. We lived in an orphanage at the time.

I remember we were locked inside (think a door with grill bars and locked with a padlock) downstairs. It was early evening and not much to do but play or talk or peek through the tiny windows and day dream of freedom or being rescued and loved by a family....

So we decided to play cards on the verandah.

Apparently one of the girls who had family, had gone home for a few days and came back that day.  While playing cards we realize how hungry we were and no means of getting food until the morning. The girl who had returned that day said she had red wine in her bag.  She did have a few bottles, I'd say four or so, and we decided to drink it from the bottle. No cups were available.

We played cards and drank quite into the night, maybe from around 6pm to 10.

I remember getting up to go get something from my cupboard for another girl and my legs fell out. Haha.
So I tried again, got up and realized I was swaying! I then realized I was drunk!!
I tried to balance, got what I was supposed to for the girl, and simply went to bed.

I remember hoping that I wouldn't fall off while climbing up to my top bunk. You had to get up there without any ladders.

I went to bed. Slept well. Woke up without any hint of a hangover. I was quite surprised.

But at least we weren't hungry.  But I never drank again. I cannot stand the taste of wine/alcohol. It seems it's an acquired taste.

It's the worse feeling to be locked away and to be hungry.

Anyway that was me, intoxicated :)

Have you ever been intoxicated?
Did you have a hangover?

  4. yes. I have. i can only remember one time it was as bad as what you've described. it was because I didn't have anything in my stomach prior to the drinking. but wine where we differ, i like wine. i think it is good for me mentally...and i have learned to get rid of a lot of bad hereditary characteristics because of it...i use it as a training tool for myself...

  5. Yes, I was intoxicated at least 3 times in my late teen due to overworked and school. I just passed out and slept. The hangover wasn't fun at all as my head felt like it was about to explode.

Then after I had the children, I became allergic to alcohol, even if I just someone's breath! Very strange, and but I am grateful for that too :-)

  7. Oh gosh, that's awful, lol

I had a year... a year of bad choices, in my youth. Glad it was only a year, but there was a bit of intoxication going on. And I do remember some hangovers.

Someone brought wine for my pre-wedding dinner too, and one glass left me stumbling when I got up, lol. Lightweight is an understatement. :)

  9. You really should write a book about your orphanage experiences - I'd buy it and read it! :) That's so sad about how you experienced wine for the first - and last - time. I bet you'd never acquire a taste for wine because it will always remind you of those days in the orphanage.

I have been intoxicated twice in my life - once on my original wedding day (where I was telling everyone "I love you so much!!") :) And once when my friends threw me a going away party before I moved to Michigan. Those hangovers were enough to make me figure out when enough is enough and I've never gotten drunk since. ;)

    1. I've been wanting to write something of a book but on parenting, so you never know :)

It could be from that experience why I cannot tolerate alcohol, but I don't know. We never really know how certain things affects us later on.

And that is hilarious about you being intoxicated and telling everyone you love them! Haha. I bet that was on tape!

Happy Weekend girl! Well you have to clean up and all, but hope you get some fun times anyway!

  10. Oh yes but at this age, I usually just drink until I have a buzz. Too old now to tolerate the hangover lol!

    Have a great weekend!

  12. You know, you're a pretty amazing person. You must have an amazing story.

The answer to your question is, I'll just say, I've been to college....

    Have a great weekend!

  13. I drink wine frequently because I enjoy the taste, but I don't like getting drunk. I stop when I feel the effects.

  14. I have gotten tipsy off of wine maybe once or twice and the only thing that happened to me was I got tired and conked out. Now getting drunk is another story. A couple times only I'm afraid to admit. One particular time was my wedding day & one was New Years Eve. This one New Years Eve I got plastered because I mixed my drinks WRONG IDEA!!! NEVER DO THAT. Not only did I pass out (on the couch), but I was sick for almost 3 days and haven't been intoxicated since. YUK! I NEVER WANNA GET DRUNK AGAIN! ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww You my child were just that a child with no tolerance to it that's why you got tipsy, and why no hangover? Probably because wine is actually good for you. It's good for your blood they say!

  15. I have been drunk a few times in my life but I only had a hangover after my 21st birthday. It was so miserable that I swore to never do it again!

  16. Oh, my God, Collette, I had no idea...!!!! :(

Yes, I have been intoxicated many, many times. Nowadays, since my gastric bypass, it only takes a sip or two, but back in my senior year of high school, I was quite the weekend lush. It was my escape from my crappy life at home.

    1. Those are just memories honey. They don't always hurt anymore. now they make for stories when I remember. And helps me heal too when I remember.

Seems I wont be able to get drunk. sometimes I think i should try just for that, but what's the use.

  17. I haven't. We're not alcohol drinkers at our house. ;)
