Beautiful Double Crown Braid With Donut Bun For My Daughter

My daughter and I have come a long ways in learning how to help each other out as I get her hair done. And we certainly have many years left to go.

I grew up having my hair done and know how the experience can be if you are not careful with the hair and be patient and calming during the process, so I try to ensure she is comfortable and we take short little breaks to help when the tears and irritation begins.

To be honest, sometimes time is short and I just have to push through and I might lose my temper (hate that part) or just try my best to get her to breathe and calm down.

I found this beautiful crown braid and wanted to try it with her hair. We watched the video together and she decided she'd love to have it done.

It was the night before her birthday.  I told her she'd have the best hair do in school for her birthday :)

We started with this:
This is my first time, so hopefully next time I can just do it without looking at the video :) See laptop in front of me.
The finished product:
You can tell she approves :)
It was a success of sorts.

She did have the best hairstyle and everyone commented and loved it. She felt special even more on her birthday.
She beamed when I picked her up from school and told me the tales :)

I will do it again a few times and see the outcome with different resources.

Do you visit the salon for a new do on your birthday?
Do you have good memories of your parents doing your hair as a child?

By the way, you can see the tutorial here from the Untrained Hair Mom and the video below:

  5. You did an amazing job, Callie! She looks beautiful (and so does her hair!) :) My mom wasn't big on doing our hair when we were kids - I try to get creative with Princess Nagger, but she has no patience. ;)

  7. You did an incredibly beautiful job Callie and your daughter's big smile proves that! :) That girl has quite the head of hair doesn't she? You tell her that makes her beautifully unique and special in my opinion ^.^

Happy belated birthday to the beautiful birthday girl!

  8. Awesome job! What a great Birthday hairdo. Happy Birthday to her! Your daughter looks like she really liked it too. I can't wait to try this on Trinity. What a great find! I just need a donut bun now. :-)
    1) I never visited any salons on my Birthday. My mom usually have her schedule and she bring all three of us in at the same time. We get the same haircut and the same outfit...usually for a special event. We didn't celebrate birthdays in VN.
    2) No. I always hated getting my haircut. Always cry like it was painful. In a way it was...my mom usually gave us a bowl cut then we would be teased for weeks. haha

    1. Oooh it's going to look so lovely on her!
Entwine flowers in it too if you can. That's what I'm thinking to do next.

      And thank you :)
And you can find the buns easy at Target or wally.

Sorry your story about the bowl cut made me giggle. But I know the feeling of bawling because of my hair cut. I had that many times when I was a child and despised my hair do!
That's why I try to ensure baby girl approve of the style first before I put it in for the week. After all, she's the one who'll be wearing it.

      Happy Thursday Amanda :)

    2. It's great that you let her have an input in the hairstyles she will be wearing. That probably makes all the difference in the world and she looks so sweet with her hairdo. I want my hair down for my birthday - am coming to see you, Colette!

      Hugs!

    3. Oh Judy it would be wonderful to visit with you and be your stylist!!!
      Come on over girl!!

      And thank you.
We hope ...well I try to remember what things were as a child without options and want my children to feel involved and loved.
Especially when it' s something to do with their person.

  9. Wow, Colette ~~ That turned out soooo nice!!! Of course we have to give our stay-at-home-dad SIL about his braid for our KP (age three to pre-school). It is all crooked, etc, but all like it lots.

She and you deserved the kudos from everyone at school. Most, especially the teachers, know it took a lot of work and patience.

  10. I got so carried away that I forgot to answer your two Q's.

Do you visit the salon for a new do on your birthday?
When I taught at the college I always got the works including a haircut, scalp massage and manicure all for free at the cosmotology lab on my birthday.

Do you have good memories of your parents doing your hair as a child?
Not real good. My dad cut my hair and people asked me if he used a bowl to cut it by.

  11. Oh, my gosh she looked adorable, you did a great job and Happy Birthday to your little one :)

My mom use to curl my hair and it wasn't too hard, my hair was flat and straight, so no tears LOL

  12. Oh you did such a fantastic job, and she is very pretty with that crown braid, like a princess. So so glad that she felt special on her birthday too! That's one precious feeling to have!

  13. Well, look at you! A cosmetologist couldn't have done better! That's fabulous Callie & she's a little cutie pie for sure! What a beautiful smile she has! A new do gives a little girl a lot of self confidence too when she knows she's pretty & Mommy helped so that's the most important part quality time together. Good job!
