Georgia On My Mind

A friend invited me on a drive to Georgia with her. She was dropping off a child and visiting many friends she hadn't seen in awhile since she moved to LA.

I thought about it and then said yes. I actually prayed about it and God put things in place to make the trip a go.

We didn't do sightseeing or anything like that. It was just a visit. A long drive, but I'm used to long drives. After all we drove to Alaska right :)

We did see part of the Savannah Rapids and had plans to visit another day when it was cooler, but timing didn't work out well. It's a beautiful place where you can rent kayaks, jog, walk, exercise, have picnics and all sorts of family outing together.
It was such a nice trip. I wasn't stressed out at all and had  a good time even with kids driving us bonkers ever so often.

Usually the trips I've been on, I felt left out and stuck in a room with kids, while adults play. I also end up really stressed out to the point of gritting my teeth, to where I just do not want to go on vacations anymore. But this trip was just simple and nice.

I have to say I love Georgia. I love the rolling hills, the beautiful homes, schools and the space to have a nice yard to actually kick a ball without it going over to the neighbors house! I would live there.

We left on last Saturday and came home yesterday Sunday evening. It's nice to use my own toilet :)
And it was nice hanging out with a friend and seeing that they are real, cool and down-to-earth.

Back to real life again and all the things of preparing for back to school.

Did y'all travel anywhere this summer?

On the trip we listened to music and chatted like crazy. This song was playing and I just can't get it out of my mind.
I LOVE this song!

Buzzworthy Books of Summer iPad Mini #Giveaway Event

When I finish reading my current series, I'd love to being a new novel and this Indie Summer list looks quite inspiring.

What are some favorites on your list this summer?

Come join us in the Buzzworthy Books of Summer iPad Mini #Giveaway Event.
When it comes to summer reading indie authors offer a refreshing alternative to predictable plots from big name writers. Here’s a list of ten titles from emerging indie authors, pick your favorite and vote on Facebook for a chance to win an iPad Mini!

If you enjoy the office intrigues of The Mad Men and the love story in The Notebook you’ll like this book.

More About The Book
“Set in New York City in the late 1950's, this love story takes you into the heart of the advertising world. The office politics and drama are equal to that of the series Mad Men.  I could not help but fall in love with the main characters, Jay and Joanna. Their story is a lifelong love affair of twists and turns with a dramatic ending that I did not see coming. A book to enjoy." Published by Deerfield Park Books
Special Must-Read Price Cut! Paperback: $11.66 Kindle: $7.99

If you don't like just plain old vanilla and want something different, Reluctant Gods is a series that transcends fiction fantasy by crossing genres into romance, humor, science fiction, and mystery and is sure to entertain while you enjoy the best of summer.

More About The Book
“A.J. Aaron is a genius. I loved this book! It had fantastic images but the real story was about Sevilen accepting his power. I understood that everything is as it should be but the author's depiction of this concept is exceptional. The laid-back dialogue and cool characters mixed fantasy with what is usually considered a serious, esoteric subject. Leyna's mindset and sexual exploits are tastefully done. Quotes from Einstein, Toffler and Drucker reinforced the message. This book is highly recommended for teenagers and adults.”

You can find more about A.J.  Aaron on his website and on Amazon, and his publisher.
Special Must-Read Price Cut! A special promotional price of $.99 on Kindle and $8.99 in paperback for this 62,000 word 250 page novel.

A mechanics life is turned upside down when he learns of his fathers top secret past, causing him to team up with a beautiful CIA agent and two beyond gifted teenagers, to try to stop the Russian mob from deploying a futuristic weapon of mass destruction and a pending alien invasion of Earth. You can purchase the e-book here and learn more about the author on his website.

This summer, see Australia... on the run from a sociopath! Take a heart-thumping tour with Jo as she searches for her father's murderer while fleeing from a killer sent by a future society to bag her.

More About The Book
Play or Die is amazing. Be prepared for tension that you have never experienced before as Jo tries to evade the psychotic Hunter determined to kill her. The book alternates between nail-biting suspense, action, and stuff that really gets you thinking. Visit the Jen Cole's website for more information.

This novel is a mock epic, a satirical, and an allegorical view of a dictator and his evil influences. Two friends share their manuscripts describing one of the first European settlements in the Americas; the finding of the original Journal of Christopher Columbus; the development of a cruel dictator; his extravagant wedding; the struggle of a hero against the dictatorship; and the end of it caused by the destruction of a great tsunami. It is a description of the struggle between good versus evil. This book will be perfect for anybody interested in reading literature: historical fiction, magic realism, religion, mythology, folklore, etc. because of all the entertainment and humor involved in it.

True story novel - building a new life from scattered and dangerous pieces.

More About The Book
"Mr. Anka has truly penned a wonderful novel. I have always been a fan of real life stories, and this one is exceptional. The author has been through so much, and to share his experiences with pen and paper is a remarkable feat. This book is definitely worth a read." Be sure to like Mike Anca on Facebook.

'Taking into account terrorist activities of the United States and overseas, Foley explains how the pentagons and rectangles became a part of our past by premeditated terrorist acts. His writing style is intricate and requires the reader to delve deep into each word for clear understanding. His detailed account of how each
formation appears structurally and by date is commended. It is an eye-opening view of a different perspective on world and terrorist events with both religious and nonreligious undertones". Read more about Mike Foley on Create Space

Why a Bad Review Makes Me Feel Like I’m PMSing or Bi-polar (Same Thing) - Guest Post

Why a Bad Review Makes Me Feel Like I’m PMSing or Bi-polar (Same Thing)
By Author Becky Monson

I never set out to write a book that I thought everyone would love and I would get all five star reviews. I mean, well yes, of course I set out to write that book, but I knew the truth: that book doesn’t exist.

The beauty of the world is that we all have different personalities and tastes. It’s what makes us different, interesting. It’s what sets us apart from each other.

So why, then, does a bad review affect me like it does? I should appreciate the review for what it is, learn from it, grow from it, become a better person because of it. Instead, I take it to heart and then I go through what I like to call the “Five Phases of Bad Reviews”.

Phase one: False-confidence. This phase is mostly filled with “I don’t need you, or your bad review” and other things such as, “I am better than your review and I know it.” In this phase, I am a confident (albeit, false) and strong woman. I can handle anything. Bring.It.On.

Phase two: Sadness. This phase actually comes quite quickly after phase one (hence the comparison to PMSing). And it includes some shedding of tears and verbalizations such as: “Why do you haaaaaate meeeee?” and “What did I dooooo to deserve thiiiiissss?”

Phase Three: Judging. In this phase, I look to criticize said reviewer even though I don’t know them from Adam. Such things come out of my mouth (or stay in my head, which is probably for the best) like: “She must be a mean and bitter person. I am sad for her.” or “They just don’t get me or my sarcastic humor. They have a sad, pitiful life”.

Phase four: Research. In the next phase I scour other reviews that this particular reviewer has done and look for comparisons. Maybe she hates chick-lit? Maybe she hates literature altogether? If I can find out why, then maybe I won’t feel so bad. This phase never works.

And finally, phase five: Acceptance. I finally make peace with the bad review and move on. So far 95% of the time people have positive things to say, whether they liked my book or not. The other 5% are the haters. I must accept that there are haters out there and be okay with it. It’s not against me personally, it’s their opinion. And they are entitled to it.

So in summary, bad reviews make me feel PMSy/bipolar. Someday I will grow up and be able to accept and move on without going through the other phases. Or perhaps I will just stop reading my reviews altogether. I doubt either of those will happen. But I can hope. There’s always hope.

Don't forget to

Moving In The Spirit - VBS Day Two #Music

Day 1 in our VBS week went great, considering how first days with large amounts of kids usually turn out.

Even the parents seem to follow the rules this time around :)

Day 2, energy was still high and everything ran much more smoothly. My wee class was pretty good and even though I had one of those kids in my class who will make you count to 10 a lot, it was still a wonderful day.

And I can't help wondering who this child will grow up to be. I like his spunk and how very intelligent he is and I call upon that knowledge every time I needed him to begin making better choices.

Really awesome time today with the kiddies and in worship.

Craft: Laced up shoe to represent walking to the promise land.
Snack
Lesson:
His Word, Our Commitment (Joshua 1 & 3) On this day children will see how God showed the world His mighty power through the Israelites.  Even though they were a special group of people chosen by God, He expected them to show their commitment to Him and His Word.  Just as the Israelites were responsible to take the Word of God with them to the Promised Land, we as Christians should be committed to knowing Scripture so we have it with us wherever we go.

Hair Glorious Hair!

Remember when I stayed up all night to get my daughter's hair done? Then instead of going to bed at 8am, I went to clean the bathrooms and floors because my husband was coming home that evening and there is no way I could allow him to come home to a dirty home?

Well here are the photos from that hair drama session.

This was my very first time putting braids in someones hair and I think it was great that I got to do it with my daughter's hair.

It took a very long time.

I'm very meticulous and it was my first time. I was nervous.

Maybe I did it too small. :)

Now I see why these sessions are so expensive in the salons.

My Trinidadian friend says I should/could go into business for myself.

Do you wear hair extensions? Wigs?
