Tough Topics: Bullying - Books My Kids Are Reading

The kids are little bookworms. Their father and I love to read and always have books and I've been reading to them since they were in the womb, so they come out with a thirst for reading. I guess it runs in the family :)

And did I mention how much we are in love with our library? :)

This week they are reading a ton, but here are just a few:

1. Bullying (Tough Topics)
Read this title to learn about what bullying is, who it affects, and how it can be prevented. Get the facts about why some children are bullies and how to avoid being bullied. Bullying can be scary. No one deserves to be bullied.

2. Science Chapters: Your 206 Bones, 32 Teeth,: and Other Body Math

3. Just Look 'n Learn Spanish Picture Dictionary
The Just Look n Learn Spanish Picture Dictionary gives children a first look at a new language by defining and illustrating 1,500 of the most basic words in Spanish. Each entry begins with a headword given in English, followed by its translation and example sentences in Spanish. Children will have fun while learning another language!

4. Lungs: Your Respiratory System
Take a deep breath and then let it out. Did you feel your chest rise and fall? That is actually your lungs filling with oxygen and then pushing carbon dioxide back out when you exhale. Without your lungs and your entire respiratory system, the rest of your body wouldn't receive the oxygen you need to survive. To give your body the oxygen it needs, you breathe twenty times every minute. You breathe more than twenty thousand times each and every day. Acclaimed science writer Seymour Simon has teamed up with the Smithsonian Institution to explore the important journey that air takes in and out of your lungs.

5. The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes
Meet Beatrice Bottomwell: a nine-year-old girl who has never (not once!) made a mistake. She never forgets her math homework, she never wears mismatched socks, and she ALWAYS wins the yearly talent show at school. In fact, Beatrice holds the record of perfection in her hometown, where she is known as The Girl Who Never Makes Mistakes. Life for Beatrice is sailing along pretty smoothly until she does the unthinkable–she makes her first mistake. And in a very public way!

6. Oh , Brother... Oh, Sister! - A sister's Guide To Getting Along

7. Bible Stories For Little Angels
Combining respect for the biblical originals with a warm-hearted and original child's-eye view of the events, these 10 classic Bible stories are presented lovingly alongside endearing and brightly colored illustrations. The story of creation is included, as well as Noah’s Ark; God’s promise to Abraham; Moses in the basket; the birth of Jesus; and many others. The result is a highly aesthetic read that compels young readers to joyfully engage in the stories of the Bible.

8. I'd Know You Anywhere My Love
There are things about you quite unlike any other.
Things always known by your father or mother.
So if you decide to be different one day,
no worries… I’d know you anyway.

Every child is special and unique, but every child also loves to dream of being something different. In I'd Know You Anywhere, My Love, bestselling author and artist Nancy Tillman has created another heartfelt masterpiece celebrating the joys of imagination, and the comfort of always knowing that "you are loved."

We still have hundreds of books here. They sometimes read two at a time.

What are your children reading?

The Music Of Life - 4Ms #Music

I've been living because the script is there. It keeps me going and every so often I have much passion again for living and then the other times, I'm fighting to stay above water.  I guess that's life ja.

Today we had a close call. I almost missed one of D's soccer games. Good thing I followed the urging in my heart to check the email again when I woke up. So instead of having three hours to prepare, I only had 45 minutes!

I got all the foods ready and we were 18 minutes late. He still got to play. I'm happy about that. I'm always so hard on myself when I'm late. I hate being late.

The team didn't win either of their games, but it's about practice and learning, unlike the recreational soccer. Parents are advise to not coach their kids from the sidelines. I'm not sure they read the emails sent from the coaches.

After soccer we hightailed it to church for their music team practice.  Then home for dinner.

A poor dinner.  Oh well, it tasted good and all were full.

It's a new week of school again. I pray the kids will continue their good run. I wish school didn't take up so much of their day.

Thanks all for visiting and sharing in our music fun!

A song that I've been re-winding lately "Let Her Go'

His voice has a different kind of quality to it that pulls me in, makes me think, cry,  hope, despair.

And I would send this song to my husband, but it might seem I'm sending a message or being influential on my behalf, so I share with y'all and enjoy it's gift until I find another.

Welcome to today's music.  I hope Monday find you with a smile and music to begin your week with light steps.

I've Never Touched The Screen In The Movies

I've been searching  online for a place that does driving in theatre, so the kids and I can have this experience. Turns out, there are none in our neck of the woods.

I would love to pull up with all my food and toys and just relax and watch a movie. It must be quite the experience out in the open air.

Have you been to an open air driving in theatre before?
Don't mind my British spelling :)
We've been missing Aloha Friday. If you are missing it, then do hang out with Pamela - and I and we'll visit y'all too.
You can also take part in Amanda's Two Question Thursday which is going strong many years now.

We'll continue in honor of Kailani's fun rules:

Six Times A Charm Boxed Set Release Day + $25 Amazon GC

I think I'm a slow and easy reader. And I do envy all those lightning fast readers out there who wrap up five or so books a week!
However I don't mind extending my stories and luxuriating in them for awhile so I can bond with my characters and hence miss them tremendously after the story is over.

What book can't you wait to get? Come enter the Six Times A Charm Boxed Set Release Day + $25 Amazon GC from +Colette S

Six Fantastic Books All In One!

Haunted on Bourbon Street-
Jade loves her new apartment-until a ghost joins her in the shower. When empath Jade Calhoun moves into an apartment above a strip bar on Bourbon Street, she expects life to get interesting. What she doesn't count on is making friends with an exotic dancer, attracting a powerful spirit, and developing feelings for Kane, her sexy landlord.

Being an empath has never been easy on Jade's relationships. It's no wonder she keeps her gift a secret. But when the ghost moves from spooking Jade, to terrorizing Pyper, the dancer, it's up to Jade to use her unique ability to save her. Except she'll need Kane's help-and he's betrayed her with a secret of his own-to do it. Can she find a way to trust him and herself before Pyper is lost?
The Accidental Demon Slayer-
New York Times bestselling series! It's never a good day when an ancient demon shows up on your toilet bowl. For Lizzie Brown, that's just the beginning. Soon her hyperactive terrier starts talking, and her long-lost biker witch Grandma is hurling Smuckers jars filled with magic. Just when she thinks she's seen it all, Lizzie learns she's a demon slayer-and all hell is after her. Of course that's not the only thing after her. Dimitri Kallinikos, a devastatingly handsome shape-shifting griffin, needs Lizzie to slay a demon of his own. But how do you talk a girl you've never met into going straight to the underworld? Lie. And if that doesn't work how dangerous could a little seduction be...?
Carpe Demon-
Retired demon hunter Kate Connor must go back to work when she spots a demon lurking in the local Wal-Mart. But she'd better not arouse suspicion. This kind of thing could really hurt her husband's political career.
Girls Guide to Witchcraft-
Which is more unlikely? Meeting a single, straight, reasonably attractive, willing-to-commit man? Or discovering a secret cache of magic books? For good-girl Jane Madison, neither has a shot in hell of coming true -- until the day she finds a hidden room . . . Now she's done a bit of experimenting and found a spell that makes her irresistible to men -- even those who have previously ignored her. And another that turns a cat into her witch's familiar (a snarky, critical, self-absorbed man -- pretty much a typical male). Though her impulsive acts of magic have brought a warder (sexy, grouchy, elusive and determined to stop her from using magic) down on her, Jane's not willing to let go of this fantastic new life. Though she wonders about having things that aren't "real," she's having too much fun to stop. After all, no one ever said being a witch was easy.
How to Date a Werewolf-
Romance can be a hairy business--especially when you're a werewolf. As the owner of Get a Mate Dating Service, Rylie is more than happy to step in and lend a hand to lonely lycanthropic hearts all over town. No matter how hopeless Rylie might be in finding her own soul mate, she has a knack for helping others find theirs. Convinced that she is stuck with a family curse, Rylie is positive she will never find her true love. But when drool-worthy Jack Chandler shows up at her door, Rylie wonders if maybe the curse is finally broken. But Rylie's life is about to become complicated courtesy of the after-dark crowd. When she begins receiving strange notes and harassment from a jilted client, events careen out of control. Jack knows she's more hassle than he can handle. What he doesn't know is whether she's seriously in trouble . . . or simply delusional.
Easy Bake Coven-
For Selene Warren being a witch is no big deal. She dabbles in harmless magic with her friends and never thinks much about it. However, when a stranger who seems to know her shows up at her studio and her grandmother is brutally attacked, her simple life becomes complicated. A world of elves, half-elves, fae—and one peculiar Sekhmet named Femi open up to her. She will discover that fairy tales are real, politics are ugly in any world, and there is a lot more to her life than she ever dreamed possible. This new reality threatens swallow Selene whole, but with a forgotten past beating down her door, she will have to dive in to save her future.

I'd Know You Anywhere My Love

I'd Know You Anywhere My Love A Paean to Dreams and Imaginations is a very inspiring book told from a mother's point of view.

Were you encouraged to dream as a child?
Do you encourage your children to dream?  Or children in general?

Dreams and imaginations should be encouraged in children. In my day, those were not encourage. I think it also depends on your culture. I still have my dreams and imaginations! Especially the imaginations! Growing up in an orphanage, I found relief in books and the imaginations of being in a good family who loved me.
I never found that family, but I still had that escape.

Now as a mother I have learned how wonderful it is for children to have books, dreams and their imaginations.

I encourage, embrace and jump into their shared stories no matter how far fetched.

Children love to dream. Their imaginations can take them on wild adventures; transporting them to far off places and allowing them to envision grand scenes. But, ultimately, no matter where their dreams lead them, their parents are there every step of the way.

In I'd Know You Anywhere, My Love; best selling author Nancy Tillman underscores parents' steadfast devotion, while celebrating the dreamers.

Inspired by her own children who often pretended to be different animals, I'd Know You Anywhere, My Love is written from the point of view of a mother whose child become a bear cub, a rhino, a ringtail raccoon, among other animals. Filled with affirmation, I'd know You Anywhere, My Love teaches children to dream big and remain confident that, whatever they aspire to be, they will be recognized and loved.

Fox or koala, giraffe or raccoon...
anything, anywhere under the moon.
Whatever it is you imagine to be,
I'll just be so proud you belong to me.
