The Sea of Dreams spat me out with no memories, no idea of who I was or what my purpose might be. When Captain Bo, dream killer extraordinaire, arrived, I took a chance to explore. On the road of discovery, I tripped upon dreamplanes floating dead in a graveyard, scared children attempting to survive their dreams turned nightmare, strange guardians, rogue Dreamlanders, and ships with hearts of silver.
I learned more about Dreamland than I ever thought possible. But people are dying. They’re disappearing. Dreamland is twisting, shifting, ripping. I don’t know how best to help, how to save those I’ve met, who have wormed their way into my heart. If only I knew who I was, what I’d been born to do. Then I found out. I know who I am. I wish I didn’t.

Meet the Author:
SM “Frankie” Blooding lives in Colorado with her pet rock, Rockie, and Jack the Bird. Jack has refused to let her to take up the piano again, but is warming to the guitar. It might help that Frankie has learned more than two strings. She’s added a few more Arabic words to her vocabulary, but don’t invite her into conversation yet—unless, of course, you’re willing to have a very . . . slow . . . conversation. She’s dated vampires, werewolves, sorcerers, weapons smugglers and US Government assassins. Yes. She has stories. She’s also an investigator with a local paranormal investigation group, Colorado Paranormal Rescue!
Dream Killers started out as a behind-the-scenes moment of Dreamland Stories. I wanted to show people some of the other locations, like some of the other Dreamlander Burbs, and all of a sudden, I had a whole other series, so I gotta kinda watch what I do here. LOL! I think the coolest behind-the-scene exclusive I could give you is on the elements of Dreamland. These are simply used. They don’t get explained in great detail. Dreamland is really like a trip inside my mind.
You learn more about me in this crazylandscape than you do in any other setting. Like the reason behind Place. I am directionally dysfunctional as all get out. I’m ambidextrous, though not nearly as much as I used to be. I’m predominantly right-handed—right? No, left, no. Right. It’s right.—as it’s faster and more accurate, but I’m left eye dominant, which means I do all my aiming and leading with my left. To make things worse, when I hold up my hands to form the letter “L,” they both look like “L”’s, so that really doesn’t help. If I’m perfectly honest with you, the right “L” looks more correct than the left “L”. To make matters even worse, when I travel, I follow my gut, or my nose, or my intuition. I go where it feels correct. I’m not alone. There are a lot of other intuitively directional people.
So in Dreamland, we travel by Place. We reach out with our minds, gathering the feel of the location, the history, what it means to us, where it is in time, and then wepull ourselves through the In-between to get to our location. Intuitive driving! If we lack the feel of a location, but we need to go meet someone, we follow their Who. I love getting to know people, and I feel connected to each person I collect as a friend or family member.
My daughters and my sister—my three girls—were the ones who really got me thinking about a person’s Who. My sister and I have always been connected. When I went into labor, SistaPITA felt it. When I swallowed a watermelon seed, SistaPITA nearly choked to death. Well, when she tells the story, she nearly died. I’ve always known when she was in trouble, and I mean trouble! However, as we grew into adulthood, we drifted apart, and so did our connection. Our Who’s altered. Then she moved in with me. I can tell when she’s having a bad day. I can feel when she’s just being lazy. I can feel when she’s had an argument with her boyfriend. Andthat’s before get home. And because Dreamland is a fold in space and time, and with the fact that most people are only corporeal beings, a Who is more important than a photo ID. It is you. So you better guard it and keep a watchful eye on it.
Another major element of Dreamland is the shifting of time. There’s a portion of your brain that resides between your eyes, right behind your nose, that tracks time relative to where you are. I’m pretty sure mine is irrevocably damaged! I recall talking to my youngest daughter when she was, oh, I don’t know, five? Maybe? She was all excited about all the things she was going to do on her birthday because it was the twenty-nineth. I smiled and nodded. I had some great ideas of what I wanted to do for her birthday. She asked me if today was the twenty-ninth, and I said it was, and would be all day long! I completely missed the point that TODAY was the TWENTY-NINTH and TODAY was her BIRTHDAY! That is just one of the reasons I won Mother of the Century.
However, my mind literally sees time as fluid. I see the future happening in my Now. I see the past occurring ahead of me. It seems strange to me that you see time as being straight! Silliest darned thing I ever heard. So, every time we meet people in Dreamland, we have to get a time reference. Howmuch time has passed since last we met? There were a couple of scenes where timewent backward, but I felt it was too difficult to follow for the reader. It was too soon. However, in Season 2, be prepared. You’re going to start experiencing time the way I do. So, there’s a behind-the-scenes view of some of the elements of Dreamland. I hope Ididn’t scare you off and that you enjoy the read!
