5 Quick And Useful Tips On Staying Healthy This Cold/Flu Season #ReliefIsHere

Before her Christmas visit, my mother was sick for quite a spell with the flu. It was hard on her. She said, her skin felt so sensitive to touch and her bones ached!
I'm so glad she was over it before her visit to see us for the Christmas holidays. Travel would have made things so much harder on her well being.

Then I read on the news how bad the flu outbreak is being this year, and how many are dying from the illness. Older, younger and people with compromised immune systems are hardest hit.

After the holidays and it was time for my children to return to school, we discussed ways for them to try to remain healthy, while on campus. It's harder for kids to remember little things such as not touching nose, mouth, sharing things and so on, but if they only remember one thing at a time, the rest will follow.

So far, thank God, the kids have been in school for a few weeks and haven't brought home any illnesses! I'm so glad, because my body is not up to being sick right now.

I have realized that every time they begin a new school term, they usually bring home a cold, or the flu. This leads me to believe, they are remembering our discussed ways to stay as healthy as possible and perhaps their immune systems are much stronger than mine :)
Whichever way, I'm just so thankful that we have not being sick.

How do you help your family stay healthy during cold and flu season?

Last time we were sick, I realized that I didn't have the right medicine for the aches and pains of the flu and other symptoms. I was very concerned and realized that even if we didn't get sick too often, I must ensure medicines are up-to-date and ready to use. It is hard to pick up a sick child to run to the store or pharmacy!

This season, I am prepared.

1. Sanitize everything!
One of the first ways to ruin a vacation together is catching a cold on the plane. Carry antibacterial wipes and wipe down every surface you may touch on the plane.

***Update***
Since I began writing this post last week, I have gotten sick. At first I thought it was just allergies, since it was just stuffy nose, itchy ears and eyes. Turns out it's a weird cold that is affecting only my face!

I still have to get up very early during the week for school and of course take the kids to their after school activities, and other regular day to day duties. It's been so much harder this time.
I did grab the Vicks  NyQuil to help me sleep throughout the night - which was scary since I could only breathe through my mouth and then my mouth would get so dry that it was painful to swallow the next morning.
Then to help me navigate my days better, I used the Vicks DayQuil for some much needed relief.

  1. great tips! One thing we always do is drink lots of herbal teas using herbs that boost immunity. One of my favorites is "triple-e" using Echinacea, Elderberries. and Elder flowers. The best way is to use loose herbs rather than bagged and to let it steep at least 15-20 minutes.

  9. Oh, yes! I am a mad flurry of sanitizing crazy. I have 3 young kids and I don't think they can keep from sliming each other.... or the whole house. Yuck! I keep plenty of DayQuil and Nyquil handy in case though.
