Grace Is Not Fair

Are you willing to come to the party?
Everything is already paid for.

Having spent considerable time with good people, I can understnad why Jesus liked to be with tax collectors and sinners." - Mark Twain

Three Stories used to talk to us about the Kingdom of God.

The Parable of the lost sheep - Luke 15:3-7

The Parable of the lost coin - Luke 15:8-10

The Parable of the lost son - Luke 15:11-32

Luke 15:11 "There was a man with two sons..."

The YOUNGER son - Luke 15:12 "Give me my share...."

Luke 15:13-16 "He set off for a distant country...."

Sin will take you FARTHER than you ever wanted to go, it will keep you LONGER that you ever wanted to stay, and it will cost you MORE than you ever wanted to pay.

Luke 15:17-19 "When he came to his senses...."

First Rule of Holes:
When you find yourself in a hole, STOP DIGGING.

This is how God sees sinners:

THE FATHER: Luke 15:20-24   "His father saw him and was filled with compassion..."

No matter how far you've gone, how long you've stayed, or how much you've lost, God wants you back.

The fattened calf is ready for feasting.

The Older Son:
Luke 15:25-27  "Meanwhile, the older son was in the field...."

NOTE: the older son is the Pharisees

Luke 15:28-30  "The older brother became angry..."
The expectation that God owes you for your good living can leave you:

* Bitter and resentful towards God
* Self-righteous and judgmental towards others
* Unsure of your place in God's family

Pride is keeping him out of the party, and away from the Father's love.

Luke 15:33   How will the story end?

There is now Luke 15:33

Jesus left it unanswered, so they and we could answer it.

The True Older Brother
"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." Luke 19:10

Remember: Grace is never fair, it's freely given - a gift.
If it was fair, it would be justice - and everyone would get what they deserve.

What is your understanding of The Lost Sons?
Which son do you or did you identify with?

  1. All so good, Colette. And this one, ugh, so true! 'Sin will take you FARTHER than you ever wanted to go, it will keep you LONGER that you ever wanted to stay, and it will cost you MORE than you ever wanted to pay.'

    1. Thank you Rosey.

So much to learn. Never a boring moment in the bible at all.
