Hometown Tourist With Sweet Beignets - #SocialInsiders

Are you a hometown tourist? Will you be one?

I've never really thought of doing this before. And there is this fun social challenge going on in Social Insiders that I am participating in.  I think this will be interesting.

Hometown Tourist

Be a tourist in your hometown! Go see something new, try a new restaurant, or shop in a new store. What makes your town unique?  What do you love about living in your town? Blog about your experience and share it with us.

Every so often I love donuts. A few times a year I indulge.

When I heard of a new donut shop coming just a few miles closer to our home, I've been excited. It would be a new building, but same owners from another branch farther away.

We do not travel that direction often anymore because our library is no longer in that direction and my friend whom I used to visit, has died. But it turns out we still have soccer and some church programs from another church in that direction.

I reckon we can perhaps have a treat, if I have any extra money to share.

Now I've lived in Lousiana for quite a long time and have not had the pleasure of trying the beignets as yet.

And I was excited for the new Rickey Meche's donut shop, so I could try their beignets :)
They are really good....but I expected some fruits or nuts or something else inside as filling. These seems to be just dough with powdered sugar. Lots of powder!  But good :)

I might want to try making them myself at some point. Or just look up the recipe.

Rickey Meche's Donuts serve a wide variety of donuts, king cakes , kolashes, coffees and more!  Their stores are always clean and inviting! And I think they do have really sweet :) deals often!

And I do want to try their beignets quite a few more times before moving on to another menu item :)

Have you had beignets before?
Do you like donuts?
Do you have any donut jokes to share?

You can read their story here and maybe if you are in town, stop by for a little visit.

  1. I have never had them. If you make them at home you can put fruit and nuts in them if you want. :) I think that's a fun challenge.

  2. I think I am a hometown tourist. I like to try new restaurants and visit new shops & yes, I do like to write about them too.

This is the first time that I am hearing about beignets. I don't think we have it here in my country. Although dough & powdered sugar don't spell healthy to me, lol. I guess some filling would make those beignets more enticing.

  3. Oh my gosh, these look so good. I've never tried these but I love filling inside my donuts and such so I'm not sure I'd like them without it. Fruit or pudding or something.

  4. No I've never had beignets before. I really need to be more of a tourist in my hometown. I tend to go other places to shop and eat. I live in a historical town with a lot of amazing places to visit and foods to eat.

  5. It would be nice to tour my city, I'm sure I'll find lots of hidden gems that I'll enjoy with my friends or family. Love beignets and donuts! These look amazing!

  6. Never even heard of beignets! I'm wondering if they are just an American thing because I'm not sure we have them here in the UK.

  7. First time to hear about beignets but they seem pretty yummy. I love doughnuts though and they are the easiest school recess or snack.

  8. I never seen this before but it really looks great. I bet this is so tasty

  9. Oh, this looks really yummy. I am not sure where did I see something like this in our country, I think in our province.

  10. Yes, I love doughnuts and headlights are my favorite. The grocery down the street makes the softest, best ones. I have tried beignets before, but they are not common around here. Wish they were.

  11. Well, I`m a home town tourist big time. Ever since I was small i wanted to try new restaurants every time. But I`ve never heard of Beignets before. Thank you for sharing this info.

  13. I never tried them. But I will surely do in the future!

  14. I have not tried these before, but they are on my bucket list. I figure a trip to New Orleans is in the cards at some point.
