The kids had a whole week off for Thanksgiving. They were super excited to hang out with mom. I am thankful that they are delighted to be with me. I wonder how it will be as they get older. But when your 11, and 9 year olds want to really spend time with you, that is a blessing.
I love having them home. I miss them during the school days and I'm so blessed to be able to stay home with them. Thank you God. Thank you husband Charles.
We had such a nice and calm time together. They enjoyed my meals and also they helped with the cooking. They didn't balk about the chores and we just enjoyed the time together. There was music, dancing, laughter, fun!
Now if only they could not bicker so much at each other :)
*******
On the day before Thanksgiving, there was a knock at my door. I went out and this man was there delivering a huge box of Thanksgiving meal products.
Someone was calling from my daughter's school about my name on a list to receive a Thanksgiving basket. I didn't return the call, so I was shocked to see the person on my doorway.
I asked if he could take it back and give to someone else who would use the basket much better than I would. I had already bought a turkey breast, and baked what I needed for my little family.
He shied away from accepting the responsibility to find someone else in need. And tried to convince me that I could use it.
I took the basket, went to my moms group to offer it to a family. It was the day before Thanksgiving, so I was willing to deliver it that day.
I couldn't find anyone fast enough, so I called the number that the delivery guy had left. Turned out it was not a good number. So I called the number that was calling my home for the past couple days about the basket, and I asked them to find someone to receive it.
Awhile later, the same guy came to pick up the basket again. I was relieved! I hope someone was able to get it on time.
I asked why was my name on this list and they explained what the church was doing, by delivering the Thanksgiving basket to families who might have been flooded out, because the school was assuming the parents of all or most of their students had been flooded out and would need care this Thanksgiving.
I applaud the church. This is what we do for people.
But even though I didn't have a full turkey or all the trimmings, I had what I needed and figured someone else could use the items more than we did.
Way to go One Church - formerly Hope Alive.
But I did promise to get my kids a normal turkey when they went on sale , so they could have a drumstick :)
It was a very good week with my little loves. I"m so thankful to be alive with them.
And my husband called. I hoped he was home too to share in the family time.
I hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

ReplyDeleteThank you Doll! Same to you. *HUGS*
DeleteWhat an awesome thing you did with the Thanksgiving basket! Our family has had moments where we couldn't afford a good meal on a Holiday and have had great people help us. It's great to be able to give back now that we are able to afford a little extra.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anne.
DeleteI knew someone else could really use it. We all need help at various points in our journey here on earth.
Aw what a lovely idea! Hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The kids and I did have a lovely Thanksgiving together. I think they want a drumstick though, so maybe for Christmas we'll be able to get one
DeleteWow this is awesome Thanksgiving! Hope you had a blast!
ReplyDeleteOh we did Marga. It was a blessing.
DeleteYou are most definitely blessed with a great community!! My sister's house was flooded... and community can really make a difference.
ReplyDeleteIndeed community is good for us all. It really does help. So sorry that your sister was flooded but so glad for all the help she must have received in such a devastating time!
DeleteWhen you get to be my age, the time you spent with your kids can never be regained, so enjoy every second of it. Love to read inspiring stuff like this. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh yes! They grow up and go away. I'll have the memories and so will they. And time is precious.
DeleteThank you Grant :)
It puts me in mind of when my grandma and grand uncles and aunts would prepare baskets of extra fruit and vegetables from harvest and create baskets to leave on the porches of neighbors for the holiday season. No one ever asked if there was a need, there was just a attitude of giving and sustaining their community.I am sure needs were met but this was always a special moment.
ReplyDeleteThat is so inspiring! I would love if many communities were like this.
DeleteThanks for sharing.
We had a great Thanksgiving weekend. How amazing your church was willing to do that for families!
ReplyDeleteJennifer I"m glad you had a good Thanksgiving. It wasn't my church at all, just another neighborhood church. God is good everywhere right :)
DeleteOh that's so nice. I always love it when people do good things for one another.
ReplyDeleteThe world needs it more pronounced.
DeleteOur church put ours on the list too, because I am a single mom, and I did the same thing you did, I redirected it to a family who needed it far more. How wonderful that we do not. I'm glad you had a nice time with your little loves. :)
