Parenting like this, just doesn't make sense to me.
How can you say, well the child didn't want it, so I gave him juice all the time even though I know it wasn't good for him.
You are the parent! The kid is the child.
As a mother I do not ask my kids if they want to drink water. I tell them to drink it and I give it to them.
In the morning, they can have orange juice or whatever juice mixed with water, But during the day, they have to drink water.
However I still encourage a glass of water as a first for the mornings.
At dinner time, they will get water only.
And if they got juice mixed with water for dinner (half and half), then they have to drink a glass of water for dessert or at the point they would get dessert if they didn't get dessert, and for the rest of the night/evening.
We know how hard our children play. And especially in the summer we know how hot it gets. But it doesn't matter when, our children NEED water, just regular water to keep them healthy, hydrated and oiled to keep going.
Too many parents are asking their kids permission to be a parent. Parent the child. They cannot be more headstrong than you are. That, my dear, is a cop out!

Absolutely, really no excuse!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree Callie-Parents these days want to be their kid's friends and that just isn't working!
ReplyDeleteParents need to be PARENTS to their children, which means making them do things they don't want to do.
They'll thank you for it in the end!
You don't need to publish this comment, Colette. Judy sent me your message and I just wanted to check in and confirm that everything is okay with the post I've sent you.
ReplyDeleteOnce you've okayed it, I'll start writing the second one.
Warm regards
Anne
We need more parents like you!
ReplyDeleteBoth my boys love water. One drinks water exclusively, even if he is offered a soft drink. I guess I'm lucky.
ReplyDeletei wish broxton loved water... but i am not a huge fan... and marc acts like it is poison. lol, so he drinks milk... and a watered down juice at some point...
ReplyDeleteyou are absolutely right, parents do ask the kids what they would like to drink. what a coward...including me sometimes, i better cut it out.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up there were no options. It was water and if we were lucky, sun tea without sugar! I am grateful for fewer cavities. lol
