1. Have you made scalloped potatoes before? Do you like it?
Tonight was my first time making it. I thought it was yummy. I know the boy does't like the cheese in it (roll eye. Something about him and cheese. Bah)
The girl pretend to like it.
And I have no idea about the man.
Oh well. I thoroughly enjoyed it with steam veggies and a bun and a spoon or two of rice!
I used this recipe:

3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 dash cayenne pepper
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated cheese, to sprinkle on top
paprika
Directions:
1 In a small sauce pan, melt butter and blend in flour.
2 Let sit for a minute.
3 Add all of cold milk, stirring with a whisk.
4 Season with salt and cayenne.
5 Cook sauce on low until smooth and boiling, stirring occasionally with a whisk.
6 Reduce heat and stir in cheese.
7 Place a half of the sliced potatoes in a lightly greased one quart casserole dish.
8 Pour half of cheese sauce over potatoes.
9 Repeat with second layer of potatoes and cheese sauce.
10 Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
11 Top with some paprika for color.
12 Bake uncovered for about 1 hour at 350°F.

ReplyDeleteI have made scalloped potatoes many times. They are a cold weather favorite at our house. We like them with a touch of Tabasco sauce. And, like someone mentioned above, sometimes I add finely chopped onions.
ReplyDeleteI do quite enjoy scalloped potatoes, but I like pretty much anything with potatoes in it. I'm a starch kinda girl ^.^
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I ever made any from scratch or not, but years ago I use to buy the box version. I'm going to save your recipe and give it a try. I do love scolloped potatoes, though. Very yummy!
ReplyDeleteI haven't made scalloped potatoes in a long time - those look so yummy, I think I'll have to make them soon! It's funny that your son doesn't like the cheese - I thought all kids loved cheese! LOL! :)

ReplyDeleteI love scalloped potatoes and make them during the cold winter months when I don't mind having the oven on in the house. I use Gruyère cheese which is yummy and melts beautifully.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
Back when I was able to eat that kind of stuff....
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Yes I do and since I haven't had them in awhile, I will be craving them lol.
ReplyDeleteYes, Colette, I like scalloped potato. I don't make them but sometimes Mrs. Jim will.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite scalloped dish is scalloped oysters. They are made in a big pot and sort of lined with soda crackers if I remember right. My grandmother made them of holidays.
..
I have not made scallop potatoes as my family don't like or eat potato that often. Thanks for sharing this recipe, as it might break my family's habit :-) when I'll try to make this.
