Memorial Camping Mother And Fortnite

Happy Memorial Day.
This day came so fast and it's also Pinecove Camp In The City for our Church!

I just dropped my daughter off for her first day of camp. She is so very blessed. We couldn't pay for camp this year and the church offered to give her a full scholarship. I hope when we do get on our feet again, we'll have the pleasure of sponsoring a child or more.
I can't wait to hear all about her camp!

My mom, she is having a rough time of it with family who's supposed to love her. Please keep her in prayers.

What are your thoughts on Fortnite? My son wants to play it and I am trying to find research on what kind of game it is. He's touting it as a good one because all his friends have it, but I don't teach them to follow friends or trends. Hence I'd love some live feedback.

Thanks y'all for prayers. I appreciate it! Happy Memorial Day!

Remembering Birthday Specials and New Teen Adventures

It was a long weekend.
I'm glad it seemed long. It just means more time with my kids.

My son is now a teenager. He had his birthday over the weekend.
I wish I could have thrown him a party. I didn't have the money to make that happen.
I offered to take him wherever he wanted and get things he wanted that I could afford.
He bought a pair of shoes, and games at Games stop. He chose a slice of cake and then home to enjoy his goodies.

He is such an amazing boy! He is so loving, thoughtful and always full of joy. He is my ray of sunshine! No day passes that I don't get a hug (many hugs) and I love yous.
I pray he will keep his sweet heart as he grows up. He is precious! I'm blessed to have him as a son.

Happy Birthday my dear son.

Hard to believe I have a teen. And still, my spirit feels young :)

Now for the music!
So this week is songs about remembering or forgetting? “Remember”/ “forget” doesn’t have 2 B in the title, but there has 2 B something about remembering or forgetting in the song (e.g. “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone”/”It was the 3rd of Sept./The day I’ll always remember…”)

The Last April Book Tour + Guest Post

I began writing The Last April after I was shocked to discover that my hometown, Columbus, Ohio, had the largest Confederate cemetery outside of the Confederacy. As much as we learned about the Civil War in school (it’s the majority of our history lessons in Ohio since, as President Lincoln said, “Ohio helped win the war”), I didn’t learn about Camp Chase until I was an adult. It was fascinating to think that at the beginning of the war, Confederate officers walked Columbus streets freely… but midway, the climate changed.

I believe that as a nation, we haven’t really “moved on” from the Civil War, as evidenced by our continued discussion about how to properly memorialize what happened. The era is so interesting to me, because it changed so much about our national identity. It was the Civil War that changed the perception from a federation of states, to a nation. In this current political climate, I felt compelled to write about another time in our history where we citizens were deeply divided… and we managed to make it through.

Because The Last April is historical fiction, it took me three years to research, and over a year to write and edit. Some people think that’s a long time to work on one project… and I guess it is! I’ve realized that writing doesn’t feel like a choice anymore, it’s a compulsion. Something starts to bubble up, some sort of theme about identity and personal expression that cannot stay inside anymore.

I like to write for younger teens and children because books can be such heavy influencers for your lens on the world. A book helps you learn how to choose to interpret and process events around you. I feel a lot of my empathy came from reading about characters who were unlike me as a child (from a demographic perspective), but at their core, were very much like me, personality-wise.

For you readers out there, I hope you enjoy this book for its edutainment characteristics. Yes, we all know how shot President Lincoln, but did you know that not everyone knew that back then? That some people didn’t hear what had happened, who who ultimately took that fatal shot, until a week after the event? I hope you fun and learn something by witnessing the aftermath of President Lincoln's assassination through a teenage Ohioan who finds herself nursing a Confederate prisoner.

Spontaneous, fifteen-year-old Gretchen vows to help heal the nation from the recently ended Civil War. On the morning of President Lincoln’s death, Gretchen finds an amnesiac Confederate in her garden and believes this is her chance for civic goodwill. But reconciliation is not as simple as Gretchen assumed.
When her mother returns from the market with news that a Confederate murdered the president, Gretchen wonders if she caught the killer. Tensions between her aunt and mother rise as Gretchen nurses her Confederate prisoner, revealing secrets from their past that make Gretchen question everything she knows about loyalty, honor, and trust.
The Last April is an entertaining, thoughtful novella of Ohio after the Civil War, meant to encourage readers to reflect on themes of fear and hope in uncertain political times.

I'll See You On A Mother's Day Adventure

I hope y'all had a good Mother's Day!

I had to work at our church as a fill in for someone else, so I didn't get to sit and listen to our pastor as I'd like, but I don't mind because when I need a fill-in, there's always someone to help me out.

After church, my husband wanted to go do his own thing, and because I had no vehicle, I asked him to drop the kids and I in a parking lot so we could walk around the stores and just window shop. It was better than just being cooped up at home, which I usually am all week!
I just told him to pick us up somewhere in the avenue or my last stop would be at subway.

Our first stop was Costco. My MIL had signed me up for a membership in January or December and it was my first time being able to go there. I had no intent to shop anyway, just a place to walk around.
Oh the kids and I enjoyed the walk around and so much to see and then there were the samples, which I never accepted samples before. I usually just allow the kids to do so if they asked.
But this time I did enjoy the samples and it was good and in the end, the kids and I were full and I didn't have to worry about what to feed them!

We were in there for about three hours!!! Good exercise and the fun of walking and talking and laughing with my little ones was such a delight that you don't even realize the time passing!

When husband called that he was coming by on his way home. I grabbed some water and bath tissue and on my way out the door, a gentleman asked if I was a mother. I said yes.
He then gave me a long-stemmed rose. It was lovely. I supposed it seems we were just three siblings or something...

We weren't prepared to end our day, so after my husband drove home, he said we could take his truck and off we went again to peruse the other stores that we hadn't gotten to while we were out in our adventure.
We had a good day. We had a full day and despite what is missing, I realize that my children are downright amazing!

We ended the day with subway and ice cream. Then we came home around 8pm.

I was able to talk with my mom after the kids went to bed until she fell asleep and then I couldn't sleep and simply cried for a while. Sometimes all you can do is cry and pray.

I will try to keep going.

Music helps many a soul, so let's dance y'all. Or just sit back and listen :)

A Glorious Day with Stranger Thrills

Today was a full and good day.

This is the one year anniversary for my children choosing Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. I'm so very proud of them for making this choice.

Today was also baptism and picnic at our church. It was such a beautiful, and sunshiny day. All I could think of was how the angels must be rejoicing in heaven at the moment!

Then the kids were invited to go swimming and my daughter finally had the desire she has been holding for so long. They had wonderful fun!

Come to think of it, I haven't eaten since I ate at 1pm! And it's now after 11pm. I suppose getting older will do that to you.
