Groundhog Shadow Hookin Meh In a Busy Way

I need another day for a weekend. Saturday and Sunday were both busy days and not any rest. And surely with soccer season starting up again, it's not about to slow down any time soon :) But it's life and it's good to be doing and living.

Groundhog Day! Did you see your shadow when you walked outside this morning?

The sun was out in such a beautiful way this weekend and that was good. Not hot or cold, but just enough of a cool and a warmth to know that Spring is coming.

This song has a piece written up on it that makes you see it in a whole new light and try to weigh it.

"I think the most dangerous thing about the song is that it is not ‘Ragga Ragga’ neither is it bashment. The sound is a mellow, methodical, sweet soca but the lyrics make a mockery of women’s right to safely negotiate the end of a relationship and to have the power of a ‘done’.

  1. Collette,

I guess I'm missing the 'dangerous' part of the lyrics. It sounds to me like this dude thinks his woman is mighty fine and that he isn't going to leave without some effort. Isn't that the way a relationship should be when one person calls it quits the other says, hey not so fast! Perhaps, I'm having difficulty understanding the meaning of the words. It certainly is a catchy new-to-me tune. I rather like the sound. Anyhow, so glad to see you on the dance floor today, my love. Have a boogietastic week. xx

  2. I love the beat of the song but agree with you re: that the possessiveness is never good.

  3. Girlfriend, this tune is very catchy. I always loved the Jamaican beat! So happy to see you for sure, for sure! Plus I put your give-aways on my Give
Away Linky for Tuesday. Didn't think you'd mind! I've missed you girlfriend. Hope all is picking up with you & yours. HUGS

  4. Catchy song, but it broke my heart (a little) when I saw the little boy and then, later, the photograph showing he was the boy's father - thinking back on what was once happier days, it made me wonder what went wrong. The singer was so clueless he had no idea!

  5. I like the sound. I think it's hard for any relationship to end if one person doesn't want to go. I didn't see anything awful here though in the way he was acting. He didn't get physical and he left. Did you find it offensive?

  6. Callie, you've been missed! And I love your song choice! Quite the catchy tune! I'm with Cathy - I may be missing the meaning, too, but my perception echoes that of Cathy's. :) Thanks for the dance! So great to see you on the dance floor, my friend! :)

  7. Very catchy, indeed! I had to go over to FB for the whole scoop, and can definitely see how it depicts problematic masculinity. But I also see it as Cathy and Stacy, and understand that it is hard for the person who doesn't do the ending. Of course, this is kind of personal to me right now because my (adult) son's girlfriend just broke up with him, and he is having the hardest time letting go. She ended it in a bad way, which his brother and I both saw coming. But he was blindsided and confused.

Men shouldn't badger women and refuse to leave them alone or not let them have their "done", but they also can't be expected to just be over the relationship and not even try to fight for it. (As long as it's not physical fighting/abuse, that is).
