Once I Was The EOC Of Time With Shaved Headed Teachers And Kids

The time does go by fast. We should definitely document or we so easily forget.

This week was the big EOC test for my son. He studied and was already with a certain dread because of what the teachers tell them about failing. It was hard to soften the blow with the truth that he studying, doing his best with confidence and not fear is all that matters because he can always learn what he doesn't know. I tried. He seems to understand, but I could tell that he was still nervous.
We prayed and I almost told him that most of what we cram and study for is never on the test anyway, but I held my tongue. I didn't want him more worried.

He came home after testing to tell me that most of what he studied wasn't even on the test! And he felt that he has done well. We laughed. I told him that I didn't want to tell him about the studying thing and cause him to worry :)
He then said his teacher Mrs. Lachotia had promised that if anyone got a perfect score, she'd shave her head bald (um, she is a beautiful redhead in her 50s!). Apparently, they had much fun with her because one student told her that if it does happen, in Summer, she should say one day "oh it's so hot!" and then pull the wig off in class! :D You can imagine the howling! Some teachers are great. And then there are the others. It seems laughter makes them unhappy.

Then my sweet boy says to me, but mom, it's not over, I can't rest as yet because the scores haven't yet come out. I said 'oh no, honey boy, it's all done with. You did your best and that is all that matters.

I love that he shares his days with me. He is ...will be 14 in just a few days!!!! I'm so blessed to have a son with such a good character up to this point and I pray that it will continue.

  1. I've always loved that Lukas Graham song, Callie! Thanks for bringing it back to my head! ;) Here's hoping your son gets a great score - and I love that you decided not to stress him out about the studying ending up typically not being on the test. ;)

    1. Thank you Stacy.
He got mastery. One point away from advance, but we are proud of him working hard.

  2. I've also been in love with that song since the first time I heard it. Such beautiful lyrics and singing and wisdom beyond his years. We had EOC tests even back in the 1960's when I was going to high school (they still exist, and are called the Regents in NY State) and I feel for your son. They were stressful then and I'm sure they are much more stressful now.

    1. Whoa! That is definitely a long time! The teachers do try to make it so, but I just want him to know he can study and learn anything.

  3. Colette,

Time indeed goes by way too fast. My babies are grown and one has a baby of her own. Whew, right? That's so sweet that your darlin' boy still shares with you and I hope that never changes. Hopefully, he'll always want to include you in his life even after he's left the nest. Things have a way of changing, though. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, my dear!

  5. Hi Colette,
Your son sounds like a magnificent young man who is blessed to have such a great Mom to instill within him decency and generosity of sharing self. Beautiful! He sounds fun too.

I love this song! And I love hearing him on the piano.
The years fly by. Enjoy every second with your son now. Soon he'll be chasing the fun that awaits him out there in the world ...

    Have a great weekend.

  7. Did he get the scores yet? I hope he passes with flying colors, but not a perfect score (for the sake of the awesome teacher with red hair ;) ). :)
