I Am That Child - That Foster Child

I am that child.
I was never a foster child. I would have loved to have been. I would have loved to have had a family that wanted me as part of their family. I had prayed that prayer and yearned after families all too often, to tears and hopelessness.

And so, I wanted to be that family that would be a hope and a love and a foundation to a few foster/adopted children. I prayed for this and yearned for this and still do.
But the dynamics of my family have failed me. I am upset and disappointed because I feel I've failed what I want and wanted to be so desperately.
I think a home that invites another child into it, should be loving and stable. I do not think this is so within my family and perhaps it would be harder to foster and/or adopt because I am that child and I know what a child like that would need more than anything. But God is good and he understands and doesn't have a timeline of being late on anything.

I grew up in orphanages (girls' homes). This leaves quite a destruction on the heart and if you somehow escape intact of sorts and able to function well in life, then you want to make things better.
I was always in survival mode in these places and I think I remain this way now as an adult, a mom, a wife. And sadly even my adult life has put me on this same path of being in survival mode. It is not okay, but you can't control other peoples behaviour towards you.

There were times when I was invited to stay with someone or a family for a weekend or week, during a holiday while in the orphanages, and it was filled with fear, and hope and longing and the feeling of not belonging.
Sadly if the family already had children, they'd definitely let you know and feel that you don't belong. It's so important to teach children about kindness and how to always handle other people's hearts gently. That was painful to experience.

But I had something. I didn't want to fall by the wayside. I didn't want to get pregnant and stuck somewhere in a bush shack.
I didn't know of a future, but I know that I wanted to be something and do something else than what I saw happening to all the broken girls around me. I wanted to help. I wanted to love well.

I still try to handle all of that destruction as best as I can. I have God's help.
I still have that over-hanging feeling of "I don't belong" even in my own home.
It is hard to explain.

So if you get a chance to give that love and foundation to a child, please do. They are longing for your love and care. I was that child.

What Happens If You DO Get #Coronavirus

Arm yourself with knowledge so that you can live sanely and wisely. Read what the nurse shared below, but if you want to dive into numbers and facts, then please read what Jason Warner has to say and also this one by Tomas Pueyo.

Image may contain: 4 people, meme, possible text that says '4:41 67% Your Covid 19 test came back positive. That can't be correct. I have more than 300 rolls of toilet paper.'

Good advice from a nurse on Twitter if you should get the virus: I know we’re all tired of hearing/talking about it, but one thing I HAVEN’T really seen going around is advice for what happens if you DO get coronavirus (many of us will), we're only seeing advice for how to try to AVOID it. So as your friendly neighborhood RN, a wee thread:

Things you should *actually* buy ahead of time (Erm, not sure what the obsession with toilet paper is?): Kleenex, Acetaminophen (Tylenol) in 325 mg tablets, Ibuprofen (Advil) in 200 mg tablets, Mucinex, Robitussin or DayQuil/NyQuil, whatever your cough medicine of choice is.

If you don’t have a humidifier, that would also be a good thing to get. (You can also just turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam). Also a good time to make a big batch of your favorite soup to freeze and have on hand.
If you have a history of asthma and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isn’t expired and refill it/get a new one if it is.

You basically just want to prepare as though you know you’re going to get a nasty respiratory bug like bronchitis or pneumonia. You just have the foresight to know it’s coming.

For symptom management, use the meds I mentioned. For a fever over 101, alternate Tylenol and Advil so you’re taking a dose of one or the other every 3 hours. Use both cough suppressants and expectorants (most cough meds have both). Drink a ton, hydrate hydrate. Rest lots.

If you're sick, you should not be leaving your house except to go to the doctor, and if you do, wear a mask (regular is fine, you don’t need an N95). You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE ER unless you are having trouble breathing or your fever is very high and unmanaged with meds.

90% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home with basic rest/hydration/over-the-counter meds. We don’t want to clog the ERs unless you’re actually in distress. The hospital beds will be used for people who actively need oxygen/breathing treatments/IV fluids.

If you have a pre-existing lung condition (COPD, emphysema, lung cancer) or are on immunosuppressants, now is a great time to talk to your PCP or specialist about what they would like you to do if you get sick. They might have plans to get you admitted and bypass the ER entirely.

One major relief to you parents is that kids do VERY well with coronavirus— they usually bounce back in a few days, no one under 18 has died, and almost no kids have required hospitalization (unless they have a lung disease like CF).
Just use pediatric dosing of the same meds.

Score With This Basketball Scoreboard Giveaway

I've hoped to get a basketball spot in our yard since I had kids but have never been able to because of budget reasons. I'm glad my son still gets to play at school. He'd have loved to have his own.
We were the only yard that didn't come with a goal post! Life eh. And the other yards with one didn't use it at all.

Promenade with Penelope (The Matchmaker's Ball Book 5) Book Blast

New Release Promenade with Penelope (The Matchmaker's Ball Book 5)

Can two lonely and lost hearts find one another at the Matchmaker's Ball? Jeremiah Washington cannot find employment as a cowboy--the only thing he's ever done--since the closing of the Wilson Ranch in Manassa.

He came to Creede with his boss, Angel Wilson, and decided to try to make the place home, just as she did. When a job falls in his lap, he becomes the last thing anyone would have expected of him.

A lawman. But his first job holds a bit more adventure than he'd hoped for, and he still has dreams of settling down and getting married, himself. Just when he thinks he's found the right woman for him, his new job as deputy marshal gets in the way.

Penelope Warner's grandfather passes on and leaves her with a house and life in Creede, Colorado. The only problem is that she's in Yuma, Arizona, and due to a rare sun sensitivity, she hasn't left her home in over fifteen years.

How is she to go outside in the sun and travel alone and do all the things that she'd never dream she could? Promenade with Penelope is the fifth book in The Matchmaker’s Ball series, a spin-off from the Cowboys and Angels Series. It is a clean and wholesome romance.

Each book in the series is a standalone, but features some of your favorite characters from Creede, Colorado!
